Yr.11 Physics at Glen Innes High School have been busy this term learning about all things Waves and Light.
Yesterday they carried out a simple and elegant investigation into how light intensity behaves with distance. Using only a candle and some graph paper, they were able to see that the light that goes through 1 square centimetre, falls over 4 square centimetres at double the distance and falls over 9 square centimetres at three times the distance.
This lead Yr.11 to discover the inverse square law of light intensity. It was great to see all groups get busy collecting data first hand to understand some of the fundamentals of the Universe!
