Principal Report

Glen Innes High School is pleased to share an update on the progress of our new High Potential and Gifted Extension class. We are excited about the opportunities this initiative will provide for our students and are grateful for the thoughtful feedback received from parents and staff regarding our vision statement. Your input has helped shape the direction of this program and we sincerely thank everyone who contributed.

“Our vision is to recognise and nurture the diverse talents, intellectual curiosity and creative capacity of high potential and gifted learners from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. Through challenging and engaging learning experiences, students develop critical thinking, creativity and innovative problem-solving skills. We aim to foster capable and considerate young people who collaborate with empathy, confidently express their ideas and use their abilities to make a meaningful and positive contribution to their school and wider community.”

We are also looking forward to our upcoming Transition Fair on 29 April at 3:30pm. This event will give families the opportunity to experience a taste of high school learning. Parents might enjoy attending a science lesson or TAS lesson again and seeing firsthand what learning looks like at Glen Innes High School. We encourage families to register via the QR code so we can finalise numbers for catering. During the afternoon, we will also host a short presentation covering all things Glen Innes High School, including information about our new HPGE Extension class for 2027. We look forward to working closely with families and our partner primary schools to ensure this program supports the needs of our incoming students.

Our Year 7 students are currently attending camp at Coffs Coast Adventure Centre in Coffs Harbour, where they are having a wonderful time building new friendships and participating in a wide range of activities. Camps like these provide valuable opportunities for students to develop teamwork, resilience and confidence. We look forward to hearing all their stories when they return next week.

As many of you may be aware, NAPLAN testing was disrupted across the state on Wednesday due to technical issues. Please be assured that all students will have the opportunity to complete their tests during the scheduled catch-up sessions. Our students were well supported during this time, and we would like to extend a huge thank you to our staff for managing the disruption so calmly and professionally.

A reminder that Parent–Teacher meetings will be held on 1 April. Please ensure you make a booking with your student’s teachers. These meetings are a great opportunity to check in, celebrate the positive progress your student is making, and discuss ways we can continue to support their learning.

Finally, we are excited to welcome 15 pre-service teachers to our school on Wednesday 18 March in the Beyond the Line Program. They will be visiting Glen Innes High School to observe how regional and rural schools operate and to spend time observing lessons throughout the day. We look forward to warmly welcoming them and showcasing the many amazing opportunities and experiences our school provides.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Glen Innes High School. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with our families and community throughout the year.
