Teaching & Learning Update

 Welcome back to Term 4!

It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back to school and see our students return settled, positive and ready to learn.

Across all year levels, students have quickly returned to their learning routines and are focused on their learning. These routines help students feel confident, understand what is expected of them and make the most of their learning time at school.

Our teachers are also ready for a busy and exciting term ahead.  There are many exciting learning opportunities planned in both our classrooms and specialist programs to support our students to make links with their learning. Our teachers will be sending out information shortly to invite parents that have completed the Parent Helper Course to commencing helping within our classrooms. You can continue to support your child at home with their learning by continuing to read to and with them, as well as access our subscriptions to complete reading and maths activities.

We are also preparing to welcome our 2027 prep students as our Prep transition program commences later this term.

We look forward to working closely with our families throughout Term 4. When school and home work together, our students are better supported to feel confident, connected and successful.

Term 4 - Literacy & Numeracy Early Intervention Program

Our intervention program is nearing the halfway point and what a brilliant start the Year 4 and 6 students have made. Families of the participating students will receive a letter in the coming weeks, outlining their child's progress towards their personal learning goals.

This term, the students in literacy intervention are beginning a text study which focuses on developing their comprehension, vocabulary, sentence-level writing and understanding of figurative language. Year 6 students in numeracy intervention are working on fractions and Year 4 students are continuing to work on number and algebra. These learning goals will be outlined in their mid-point progress letters.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR WPS?

The Reading Challenge Continues!

The Take Home Reading Challenge will continue, with a new class competition now underway. The class with the highest collective number of nights read will receive:

1st Place:  200 Dojo points

2nd Place:  150 Dojo points

3rd Place:  100 Dojo points

Please continue to encourage students to record their reading each night and remind them that every night of reading contributes to their class total.

Thank you to everyone for encouraging and supporting students to participate in the challenge. Your ongoing promotion of reading and your encouragement of students to read regularly at home makes a real difference.
