Dear Wollert Primary School Families,

Welcome back to Term 4! I hope everyone had a lovely break and feels refreshed and ready for the upcoming term. We have an exciting term ahead for students, families, and the school community as we finish off the year. Here are a few highlights:

- Foundation Prep Transition Days

- Year 3/4 Swimming Program in Week 4

- Year 4 Camps will take place on Friday 13th November

- Year 6 Graduation on Thursday, December 10th

- Kinder Visits

- Joy Concert at the end of Term on Wednesday, December 16th

We cannot wait for the term and are looking forward to the growth we will see in our learners as we conclude the year. Week 1 has been a great start, with students settling back into class and re-engaging in their learning. We’re also excited to kick off the inaugural World Cup soccer games during recess and lunch, which have been a big hit!

Reporting to families will be a significant part of this term. In the next newsletter, we will unpack and provide more information regarding school reports for this semester, in alignment with the new department guidelines for 2027.

Transition into 2027

As part of the transition process for 2027, if your child is currently in Foundation (Prep) to Year 5 and will not be attending Wollert Primary School in 2027, please notify us in writing via email at wollert.ps@education.vic.gov.au as soon as possible. We need this information promptly to establish grade structures for the start of the new school year.

This Friday, students will bring home their Friendship Request Form. This form allows students to nominate up to five friends they would like to be considered for their 2027 class placement. Whenever possible, we will aim to place each student with at least one of their nominated friends. Please take some time to discuss the form with your child and return it to school as indicated on the form. Your child's Friendship Request Form must be returned by Friday, October 23rd, to their classroom teacher.

If your child has experienced any student separations, please email wollert.ps@education.vic.gov.au instead of including this information on the form. We need this information as soon as possible, as we will start creating 2027 classes this term.

We will also hold the 2027 Foundation transition mornings on Fridays during Weeks 5 to 9 this term. We will inform families shortly about the logistics of these days, which will give students an opportunity to meet those who will be part of our Foundation Prep program in 2027 and engage in play and learning in our spaces.

It is crucial that all parents enrol their children who will be starting school for the first time next year. Please complete a school enrolment form by visiting the school office during opening hours or by calling the main office for more information regarding Foundation enrolments for 2027. It’s important to visit the office as soon as possible to complete the necessary documentation so students don’t miss these sessions.

Lastly, please note that we have 2027 Year 1 and 6 Step Up Day and Year 7 Secondary Transition Day on Tuesday, December 8th. We will send more information to families soon.

Please be aware that canteen orders will be unavailable from Week 1 to Week 4 of Term 4, as our current provider will not be offering services during this time. However, we will have over-the-counter sales available daily during the first few weeks of Term 4. We are also excited to announce that a new lunch order provider will be joining us soon.

No Hat, No Play

As the UV index rises to 3 or higher over the next few months, we have implemented a policy requiring students without a suitable hat to remain in a designated shaded area in the central play area next to the staff room during recess and lunch. It is essential for both students and staff to wear hats that offer adequate protection for the face, back of the neck, eyes, and ears.

Acceptable hat types include:

- Broad-brimmed hats

- Legionnaire hats

- Bucket hats

(Baseball caps and sun visors are not considered suitable alternatives, as they do not protect the ears, cheeks, or neck).

This policy will remain in effect until April 30, 2027.

Food Sharing Policy

Just a reminder that the Food Sharing policy for Term 4 has been recently shared on Compass to assist families this term.

We hope everyone has a wonderful term at Wollert Primary. As staff, we are committed to finishing off the year and supporting your child this term to ensure they make progress and prepare for their 2027 classrooms. Our solid transition program is designed to set everyone up for success and help them become the best versions of themselves.

Wishing you a lovely term,

Justin Lania
