Year 5/6 Boys - Westies Cup 2025
St Francis came out strong in our opening match, and although Lockleys North fought hard to stay in the game, we were just edged out on the final siren. But as the sun started to shine, so did Lockleys North. With 15 players rotating through just 9 on the field, we found a rhythm and a rotation that worked. The boys began to gel as a team, showing great teamwork and determination as we dominated our next three games - securing solid wins over Goodwood, Cowandilla, and St John's Grammar.
The final ladder standings were incredibly close, which meant a knockout round was needed. We came up against our friendly rivals, St Francis, once again. In my eyes, this was our best game of the day. The boys were hungry, eager and determined - and it showed. We came out on top in a tough and thrilling match, defeating St Francis 22 to 14.
That win secured us a spot in the Grand Final, where we faced Goodwood once more. The Goodwood boys came out firing - holding their marks and kicking goals from well outside the zones. They were simply too strong on the day, especially against our boys, who had already given so much.
Despite the final result, every single Lockleys North player had shining moments on the field. They played with heart, spirit and great sportsmanship. Although we didn't bring the trophy home this year, the boys should hold their heads high and be incredibly proud of their efforts. As their coach, I couldn't be prouder. We'll come back stronger and give it another crack in 2026.
Well done, Lockleys North Primary School - an outstanding day of football! A huge thanks to Coach Chad!
