Year 7 Humanities excursions

by Tom Varns (Head of Humanities)
Year 7 Humanities students travelled to Melbourne Museum and the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre as part of their unit on Australia's First Peoples and our deep time history. Highlights from the excursion included:
- connecting classroom learning about Aboriginal cultures and caring for Country to displays with actual possum skin cloaks and eel traps;
- getting up close to a diproton fossil - diproton were a giant rhino-sized wombat that roamed Sahul 40,000 years ago;
- reflecting on the ancient and continuing connection of Wurundjeri people to Country in the Forest Gallery;
- exploring the Millari Garden and learning about the traditional uses of native plants as food, fibre, and medicine.
These excursions ran at the end of Term 1 and the start of Term 2.
