Assembly - Monday 28 September

Our final Primary School Assembly for Term 3 will take place at 2.15pm on Monday 28 September in The Farrall Centre. We welcome members of our community to attend. Please remember that due to privacy concerns and to respect the photo permission choices of other families we ask you to refrain from taking photos and videos during assemblies.

Grandparents and Older Friends’ Day - Wednesday 21 October 

Grandparents and Older Friends’ Day will be held on Wednesday 21 October. The day will include a Meeting House Gathering, outside learning displays, music performances and a light morning tea.

 

This year the event will be ticketed  - see booking link here - and will take place in the school grounds over separate sessions:

 

  • Kindergarten family and friends will gather in the Kindergarten grounds from 9.00am - 9.45am. 
  • Prep - Year 2 family and friends will gather behind the Wells classrooms from 9.00am - 9.45am. 
  • Years 3 - 6 family and friends will meet outside the Walpole area between 10.15am - 10.50am. 
  • Meeting House Gathering 10.50am - 11.10am.

 

Morning tea for all visitors will be outside The Farrall Centre from 9.45am - 10.15am. 

 

Bookings to attend the morning are requested for all attendess.  We will be offering a shuttle bus service from the Hobart Hockey Centre, Bell Street. Please make sure to select this option when booking your ticket via this link.

Term 3 Vacation Care Program

Please note that bookings for our upcoming Vacation Care Program close at 6:00pm on Friday 25 September. The schedule for the program for the Term 3 holidays, which run from Monday 5 October 2026 to Friday 16 October inclusive, is here. Year 6 Excursion to Legacy Park, Queens Domain - Friday 25 September, 11.40am-3.00pm

On Friday 25 September, to celebrate the completion of the IB PYP Exhibition, Year 6 students and teachers will walk to Legacy Park, Queens Domain for play, celebration, reflection and afternoon tea. Students are to bring a snack, water bottle and hat (lunch will occur at school beforehand), and are to wear sports uniform. We will depart school at 11.40am and return to school at approximately 3.00pm. Please let the Year 6 Team know if you would like to join this excursion and note that our volunteers will require a current Working With Vulnerable People card. You will also need to fill in a volunteer form at this link. We thank you for your assistance with this, and appreciate any helpers who are able to be involved. 

Year 4 Outdoor Education Excursion - Seven Mile Beach - Monday 28 September

On Monday 28 September, Year 4 students will be attending an Outdoor Education day with their class teachers and Outdoor Education Teacher, Emily Ardas. The day's focus will be about exploring Seven Mile beach as an example of a coastal biome.  Students need to come dressed in their sports uniform, including a warm jacket, beanie, sunhat and waterproof raincoat and comfortable shoes to walk in. They should bring a big lunch, lots of snacks and a full water bottle.  We will be returning to school at the end of the school day. 

Year 2 Excursion - Hobart Zoo and Aquarium - Tuesday 29 September

As part of our inquiry into how living things adapt to survive, Year 2 will visit the Hobart Zoo and Aquarium on Tuesday 29 September. We will depart school by bus at 9.00am for a guided learning experience to consolidate the learning around creature features and how they assist animals in adapting to their environment. As part of the tour, students will also experience feeding some of the animals. Parent volunteers are very welcome to meet us at the Hobart Zoo and Aquarium at approximately 10.00am. There is a charge of $25 per parent at the zoo reception desk. Could you please email your child’s class teacher if you are able to join the excursion. Please note that our volunteers will require a current Working With Vulnerable People card. You will also need to fill in a volunteer form at this link. We appreciate any helpers who are able to be involved. 

 

Students need to come dressed in their sports uniform, including a warm jacket, beanie, and waterproof raincoat. Gumboots are recommended if students own a pair, but are not essential. Students need to bring a big lunch and lots of snacks, and a full water bottle. No canteen orders are available for Year 2 on this day. We will return to school by 2.45pm. Please update student Paperly profiles before the excursion.

Kinder, Prep, Year 1 and Year 2  - Bravehearts Visit – Wednesday 30 September

On Wednesday 30 September the Bravehearts Education Team will be presenting  ‘Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show’  in The Frank Wells Hall at 12.00pm for Kinder and Prep and 12.45pm for Years 1 and 2. Bravehearts teach children personal safety in an age appropriate, fun and engaging fashion and provide students, parents, teachers, carers and the general community with specialised child sexual assault awareness and education.  

Primary School Free Dress Day - Wednesday 30 September

The Primary School Council has organised a free dress day on Wednesday 30 September to support Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. If your child would like to participate and wear free dress please bring a gold coin donation to help raise money for the Sanctuary.  In Art, the Year 3 students have made their own stickers that will be on sale for $1 to raise more funds for Bonorong! These stickers will be available at first break outside the Music Room.

Year 3 Outdoor Education Excursion and Sleepover - Thursday 1 - Friday 2 October 

On Thursday 1 October Year 3 students will enjoy an exciting overnight experience at school, filled with teamwork, games, outdoor play and plenty of fun with their classmates. The afternoon will include collaborative challenges and a trip to Legacy Park, followed by dinner and a movie night. Students will then settle in for a special night sleeping at school before enjoying breakfast, games and activities together on Friday morning. Information has been sent to parents via Paperly.

UTAS Course Twilight Concert 3 - Monday 28 September 

The Year 11 and 12 Elective Music Students warmly invite The Friends’ School community to an evening of live music. This is the final concert for the year that is a showcase of the students' work within the University Connections Program. Each student will perform a solo piece from their repertoire across a variety of genres, and we value your support as they share in their music making in preparation for their upcoming exams. Doors open at 5:30pm, with the concert commencing at 6:00pm and should conclude by 8:00pm.

Screen Sounds Concert - Thursday October 1

Join our Senior School musicians next Thursday 1 October from 6:00pm as they roll out the red carpet for an evening of music from stage and screen! The Jazz Band, vocal ensembles, orchestral ensembles, and marimbas will come together in the Farrall Centre to perform iconic soundtracks and showstoppers. Glam up in your finest night out attire or dress as your favourite character for this showcase concert. Doors open at 5:30pm, and the concert will end by 7:30pm Grab your seat and get ready for a spectacular night of music and entertainment brought to you by the Senior School!

Absentees

If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Primary School Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: primaryschooloffice@friends.tas.edu.au) and the classroom teacher before 8.45am. We appreciate your support in this process.
