Visual Art

Grade 4
Inspired by the work of Aboriginal artist Marlin Rubuntja, Grade 4 students explored the possibilities of fibre art.
Students designed their own fidget artworks using black felt and colourful stitching. They experimented with line, colour, pattern and texture to create unique, tactile designs.
Our challenge:
How can we use stitching and colour to turn a simple piece of felt into something creative, interesting and uniquely ours?
Grade 2 and 3
Grade 2 and 3 students explored the sculptural work of Tjanpi Weavers, an Aboriginal art collective from Central Australia known for creating vibrant sculptures using natural grasses and other materials.
Inspired by their approach to weaving and building forms, students created their own yarn sculptures using yarn, raffia, beads, felt, colour and found objects. They experimented with wrapping, twisting, joining and layering materials to transform simple objects into imaginative sculptures.
Through this project, students explored how colour, texture, shape and materials can be combined to create artworks that are playful, personal and three-dimensional.
