STEM - Science Week Has Turned Into Science Month!
Science Week has turned into Science Month as our Years 3–6 students continue exploring the question: How do plants grow – on Earth and in space?
Students investigated what plants need to grow, making predictions, collecting data and observing changes. Our whole school also made recycled seed paper, using moulds and deckles before adding native wildflower seeds. During Science Week, students planted their paper around the school, while Year 4 planted butterfly-attracting seeds around Hunter’s tree.
The project created so much excitement that we have now started a lunchtime Gardening Club! Students are caring for the new plants and were thrilled to see our first seedlings sprout.
We have also been exploring growing plants in space, with students designing and building cardboard prototypes for growing plants on Mars.
Next, we will investigate hydroponic growing with LED lights and see how our plants develop.
A big thank you to Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA) for helping us provide these hands-on STEM experiences for our students.
