Rugby Report

We had a fantastic day of Rugby! The OCC girls Rugby Squad including the U17s, U15s and U13s attended the North West Secondary Schools Regional Gala Day at Sport UNE. The U17s played exceptionally well, getting to the semi-finals, but unfortunately went down and ended up placing 4th overall. The U15s won 3/4 games but it wasn't enough to put them in the playoffs and they also ended up placing 4th. The U13s played really well, showing teamwork after combining with ASC to create a side. The girls came up against some strong opposition and played 4 back-to-back games and came away with one win in their final game.

We are so pleased with the way in which all girls conducted themselves on the day and for their efforts throughout the season in both training and games.

The College would like to extend a big thank you to Ms Clarke and Mrs Mellowship-Brown for their excellent coaching and support!

Rugby Carnival

For the second year in a row the O'Connor Boys Under 15's 7's Rugby team is through to the State Finals which will be  played in Tuggerah, Central Coast on Tuesday 24th September.

Although the other teams did not make the finals it was still a successful day with most teams coming 3rd or 4th.

O'Connor teams played around 30 games between 4 boys & 3 girls teams, so it was a busy day for the coaches.

The mighty Under 13 boys lost their semi final (on a count back) 4 tries all to ASC. A great day of Rugby 7's.

A huge thank you Mr Hawthorne, Ms Clarke, Mr Honeysett, Mr Osborne and Mr Hawthorne.

CCC Hockey Report

A fantastic trip for our OCCC Hockey teams and they can be very pleased with their performances. They played so well and demonstrated exceptional skills and great teamwork. The senior students were fantastic role models for the younger players. The girls improved every game and finished with a great match. Our red hot boys went through the round games undefeated and then met Red Bend College from Forbes in the final. They went down 2-1 in a very physical and tough match. We are very proud of the effort displayed by all players. Congratulations boys on your silver medal...so close.

Australian Hockey Championships

Congratulations to Tyler McCann who represented U16 NSW Blues in the Australian U16 Schools Hockey Championships in Newcastle. Tyler's team finished 6th, and personally Tyler played exceptionally well. Tyler has one more year in this division so we wish him for next year.

A Monumental Achievement

O’Connor’s very own Terry McMillan (Master groundsman and skilled handyman) was an integral part of the Armidale City Bowling Club No. 3 Grade Pennant team that recently won the State Pennant.

This is a big deal! Many bowling clubs have never won a State Pennant in any Grade.

The finals, which saw the best 15 teams in the State competing, were played at South Tamworth Bowling Club over three days from 9th July.

When Armidale City lost their first round match to Asquith (54-62), things didn’t look that rosy for the local lads. Fortunately, some strong wins (76-49) against St Georges Basin and (66-49) against Scone saw them make the quarterfinal where they defeated Birrong (71-45). A hard fought semi final victory over Toongabbie (60-57) set up a final against Yamba. Armidale City prevailed (65-57) to cap off a memorable weekend and an outstanding season.

Congratulations Terry and the members of the winning No. 3 State Pennant team from Armidale City Bowling Club.
