Z Club

Michelle Wain is the Manager of the foster care section of the My Pathways program. Our care packs will be distributed to young people who enter care and are transitioning to the homes of our foster carers . The last batch went to kids entering our residential houses.

Often children and young people are required to leave their homes, families and all they know at very short notice when they find themselves in unsafe situations. Knowing they arrive at a safe location with access to basic essentials such as a new toothbrush and a clean towel takes away a level of anxiety and helps create a sense of belonging and security. We really appreciate the support Z Club is contributing to this process.

Z Club formed in 2013, with an invitation to sew cushions for breast cancer patients. Olivia Moore, our first President and a small band of keen students tackled the task of fundraising for the purchase of birthing kits. Our club has grown over the years, with one of our main initiatives now being the creation of care packages for places such as Vinnies, the Armidale Women’s Shelter, and Pathfinders.

We packed 600 birthing kits this year at a cost of $3 per kit. We thank everyone who contributed to this major fundraising event that we have done every year since the inception of the club. We raised close to $1000.

We would also like to acknowledge the financial support and guidance that the Zonta Club of Armidale who provided us with a generous $500 donation to help with the cost of the birthing kits.

Another exciting event that is coming up for the Z Club executive , along with Mrs Channon, will be attending the Zonta Australian/New Zealand Centennial Conference. It will be held in Brisbane on 6th-8th September. Georgia MacMahon is a flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Chloe Brown and Emily Meehan are also attending the event. More information to come in the next newsletter.

SRI

The SRI is focused on ensuring the best opportunities for High School students in our region to reach their potential - no matter what avenue. In September, we are thrilled to be sharing the startup journey and interactive art of #JonathonBolitho at Armidale War Memorial Library on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th September after school from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

Join us to hear about Jonathon’s startup journey and learn all about his music art and tech projects, including his most recent project, “An Artist, A Farmer and a Scientist”. This project has involved working with a soil scientist and farmer based in Inverell to create prototypical and interactive models/artworks of humus in soil.

This is a FREE event at Armidale Library, and students need to register via the link below (Parents and Teachers welcome to attend with students to observe the event also)
