Discovery Excursion
University of Melbourne – Discovery Excursion
On Thursday 28th and Friday 29th November, 11 of our year 9's ventured to Melbourne University for an overnight Discovery Camp to experience University life at the University of Melbourne. We arrived at 6:00pm on the Thursday night and were given accommodation in St Mary’s College. Students had some dinner and then headed out to do some sports activities. They were also spoken to by an Olympic Athlete who is currently studying at the University. We then moved onto an entertaining lecture from an Astrophysicist, and did some star gazing using very expensive telescopes. After a good night’s sleep, the student’s completed an Amazing Race around the campus on the Friday morning, followed by some sessions at the Dental Hospital and in the Medical Building, where the students were able to access Virtual Reality equipment to look at anatomy. The final activity involved working in teams and building some bridges in the Engineering building. Overall, it was a great experience for the students involved and opened their eyes to the opportunities that lay ahead if they chose to aim for university life. They were also able to meet and share the experience with some students from Shepparton High School, McGuire College and Kyabram College.
