ORIENTATION DAYS - GREATER SHEPPARTON SECONDARY COLLEGE

As we approach the end of 2019, we reflect on the many wonderful years we have enjoyed as Wanganui Park Secondary College and now look forward with excitement to the commencement of Greater Shepparton Secondary College. Staff at all four of our current campuses have been working hard to prepare for the start of next year with new curriculum being written and plans for changes, one involving extra support for literacy and numeracy at all year levels. On Tuesday, 10th December, all our current Grade 6 and Year 8 students enjoyed very successful experiences at McGuire College and Mooroopna Secondary College respectively, at the orientation days for the 2020 Year 7 and Year 9 levels. The feedback has been very encouraging as students were challenged, entertained and kept busy meeting new friends and their teachers for next year.

WANGANUI ON SHOW

Our annual awards night, Wanganui on Show, will be held at Eastbank on Wednesday December 18th.  We would like to extend an invitation to all Wanganui Park parents and friends to come along and celebrate with us the many successes of our students. Please arrive at 7:15 for a 7:30pm sharp commencement. Students receiving awards on the night will be contacted prior to the event.

END OF SEMESTER REPORTS

We have placed Year 11 and Year 10 Semester 2 reports on the Xuno Portal and most of these students have been back to school to confirm their course for next year with their Neighbourhood Leader. We will SMS parents when the Years 7-9 reports have been posted on Xuno on Monday 16th.

2020 STARTING DATES

Here are the important dates for the start of next year at the Wanganui campus:

Tuesday and Wednesday, 28th and 29th January – Staff only preparation days

Thursday, 30th January – Year 8 and 12 students only (any Year 11 student doing a Unit 3/4 subject in blocks 1, 2, 5 or 6 are required)

Friday, 31st January – Year 10 and 11 students commence.

On that first Friday, a full school assembly will be held at the start of the day in the Visy Centre.

UNIFORM VOUCHER UPDATE

Every enrolled student of Greater Shepparton Secondary College is eligible for a $200 uniform voucher.

To be eligible, parents and carers need to have filled out a request form available from secondary schools or the college website: www.gssc.vic.edu.au

This form is to be handed in at your secondary school for processing. If your child is currently in Year 6, the form needs to be returned to McGuire College.

If you have filled out a form, and are still awaiting a voucher, please note schools are distributing these vouchers as soon as they arrive from State Schools Relief.

The vouchers are redeemable at the uniform retailer nominated by the recipient on their request form:

  • Supplier 1: Shepparton School Uniforms, 55 High St, Shepparton
  • Supplier 2: School Uniform Shop, 183 Corio St, Shepparton
  • Supplier 3: Quality Teams, 25-27 Benalla Rd, Shepparton

Suppliers can fit students at any time. Sufficient uniform supplies are expected to be available in mid-January.

A BUSY YEAR!

As this is the final Newslink for the year, I would like to take the opportunity to thank and acknowledge all of the staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the year.

It has obviously not been a “normal” year, with much work preparing for 2020 in addition to meeting the needs of all of our current students.

At our Wanganui on Show event next week, I will be specifically acknowledging some of our longer serving staff members who have contributed so much over the previous 20+ years.

Next year, we will be known as the Wanganui campus of the Greater Shepparton Secondary College, and I look forward to continuing to work with all members of our school community.

Have a safe and enjoyable break over the holidays, and we will see you again soon as we commence the 2020 school year.
