Principal's Message

Dear Holy Family Parents,
Welcome back to the beginning of Term Two. I hope the Easter break provided time for rest, renewal and joyful celebration with family and friends. As we return to school, we continue to live in the Easter season — a time rich in hope and new beginnings which beautifully reflects the learning and growth we nurture each day at Holy Family.
We began the term on Monday 20 April with a Staff Development Day, where our teachers were offsite engaging in professional learning on the Curriculum Reform. Students returned the following day, Tuesday 21 April with loads of energy and enthusiasm.
Our second week brings an important moment of reflection as we observe ANZAC Day on Monday 27 April, a public holiday. Later in the week, our runners will represent the school at the North Shore Cross Country on Tuesday 28 April, followed by our first school assembly on Friday 1 May.
In Week 3, we look forward to welcoming families to our Mothers’ Day Mass on Thursday 7 May, a special opportunity to honour the important women in our lives within a prayerful and faith-filled setting.
Week 4 will be filled with both celebration and activity. Our Kindergarten Mothers’ Pampering Morning provides an opportunity for our youngest students to express gratitude and love. Sporting highlights include the Whole School Athletics Carnival at Bannockburn Oval on Monday 11 May. We conclude the week on Friday 15 May by gathering for our Celebrate the Easter Season Mass, followed by an assembly.
In Week 5, we will welcome prospective families with Come & Try Big School on Monday 18 May for preschool students. On Wednesday 20 May, our school community invites parents to engage with learning through Glow & Grow for Years 1–6 and Come & Look at My Work for our Kindergarten students.
During Week 6, students will participate in the Broken Bay Cross Country. Our fortnight will conclude with an assembly on Friday 29 May, and on Saturday 30 May, we will welcome families and visitors to our Open Day, showcasing the best of Holy Family.
Wellbeing Week in Week 7 reminds us of the importance of nurturing the whole child. A highlight of this week is Grandparents’ Day on Friday 5 June, a much-loved celebration.
We begin Week 8 with the King’s Birthday Public Holiday on Monday 8 June, before we gather again for an assembly on Friday 12 June.
In Week 9, families will receive Semester One Reports on Friday 19 June, offering insight into student progress and learning. That weekend, our parish community celebrates the sacrament of First Holy Communion, with Masses held at Killara on Saturday evening.
Week 10 continues the sacramental celebrations with First Holy Communion at Lindfield on Sunday 21 June. This week also includes Parent/Teacher Conferences for all students with Years 3–6 (with students present), strengthening the partnership between home and school. The week concludes on a high note with our much-loved School Disco on Friday 26 June.
Finally, students complete their learning journey for the term on Thursday 2 July, which marks their last day of Term Two. Staff then participate in a Whole of System Staff Development Day on Friday 3 July, preparing for the learning ahead.
These are just some of the many events planned for the term ahead, and I encourage families to please read our weekly newsletter for any updates, changes or additional activities as they arise. Term Two is filled with wonderful opportunities to grow in faith, learning and community. I would also like to warmly welcome back Mrs Dickinson, and we are delighted to have her return after several weeks of illness.
I extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated staff for their hard work, flexibility and ongoing commitment to our students, and to our enthusiastic learners who continue to approach each new term with curiosity, joy and determination. Thank you for your continued support, involvement and partnership, which play such an important role in the life of our school.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
This week's Behaviour Spotlight: Use Playground & Equipment safely and responsibly
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is central to our school’s strategic focus on student wellbeing, engagement and positive learning environments. This year, staff have been working together to strengthen and align our PBL practices, ensuring clear, consistent expectations for all students.
Guided by our school expectations — Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be a Safe Learner we continue to support students to develop the social and emotional skills needed for success at school and beyond. Please read the Student News page for more information.
School Uniform Arrangements – Term 2
As we commence Term 2, students may wear either summer or winter uniform for the first two weeks of term to allow for the change in weather.
From Week 3, all students are expected to be wearing full winter uniform. See photo.
Thank you for your support in ensuring students are dressed appropriately and according to our school uniform expectations. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Kinder to Year 6 School Athletics Carnival – Updated Information
We would like to provide updated information regarding the venue for our upcoming Athletics Carnival. Due to rising fuel costs, the price of bus transport to and from Bannockburn Oval has increased significantly. This increase is the result of fuel levy surcharges that are added at the time of invoicing.
In light of this, we explored the alternative option of using Primula Park. After careful consideration, and with thoughtful management of the school’s finances, we have made the decision to proceed with Bannockburn Oval. This decision was made in fairness to our students, as Bannockburn offers the appropriate facilities and specialist resources required for full track and field events.
Thank you for your patience and for the feedback you shared, which also assisted us in our decision‑making process. We appreciate your continued support as we work to provide the best possible experience for our students. A Compass note will be sent early next which has details of the day.
Developing Emotional Safety and Preventing Suicide in a Post-Pandemic World
This theme emphasizes the critical importance of establishing an emotionally secure environment within communities where infants, children, and adolescents feel supported, heard, and protected. By enhancing early intervention strategies, we can transition from post-pandemic recovery and promote resilience and the safeguarding of young lives.
