Life Education Visit – Years 5 & 6
Our Year 5 and 6 students recently participated in the Life Education program Relate, Respect, Connect, delivered by a specialist educator. This engaging session focused on building the skills needed to develop safe, positive and respectful relationships, both in person and online.
Students explored the changing nature of friendships as they move through the upper primary years, learning that friendships are not always perfect and require empathy, communication and understanding. They identified the characteristics of healthy relationships and discussed strategies to manage conflict and maintain strong connections with others.
A key focus of the program was empowering students to make safe and informed choices. Students learned how to:
- show respect for themselves and others
- use assertive communication and recognise emotions
- respond to challenges in friendships, including peer pressure
recognise, react and report unsafe or unwanted behaviours, including bullying or online issues
The program also extended students’ understanding of online relationships, highlighting the importance of respectful communication in digital spaces and knowing where to seek help if needed.
Through interactive discussions and activities, students developed important social and emotional skills that support their wellbeing and help them navigate friendships with confidence as they transition toward secondary school.
Mirabelle – I liked how we talked about how some qulities are good and bed in friend relationships.
Stella – I liked how we moved scenario cards into different sections of what is acceptabe, what is okay and what is not the right thing to do.
Tiana – I liked when we had to act out a problem about resolving friendship issues.
