Artwork of the Month

We congratulate “Artwork of the Month’ winner, Year 6 student Cooper Kadri for his Matchbox artwork based on the theme of Italian culture. Cooper’s work features a miniature Leaning Tower of Pisa and Colosseum that he 3D printed, both very effective additions to his artwork.

Design Tracks

We also congratulate Year 11 Visual Art students, Anthony Yunkaporta and Kila De Busch who were selected by a panel to be part of the ‘Design Tracks’ 3-day Residential Programme in August, open to First Nations students from around the state and facilitated by QAGOMA. Anthony and Kila will have the opportunity to work alongside established First Nations creative mentors, to create professional networks and to build on artistic skills. ‘Design Tracks’ encourages participants to feel inspired by the Creative Industries and consider their own future career pathways.

Year 11 Visual Art Guest Speaker

As part of their unit of work, “Art as Code”, Year 11 students had the opportunity to experience a presentation by John Graham on the art of collecting. Previously a scientist, John shared his wealth of knowledge on how his love for collecting turned into a full-time job where he is now self-employed,  buying and selling various collectibles and pop culture items through auctions and online avenues. Students are currently developing a range of artworks, including watercolour paintings, photograms, cyanotypes and pin-hole photographs for their experimental folios, taking inspiration from vintage comic books and pop culture objects.
