Prayers

We hold in prayer members of our community who have died recently or whose anniversaries occur at this time. We also pray for those who are receiving treatment for illness or who are struggling at this time. We pray the strength of God’s healing spirit will be with them and with all who are journeying through grief and loss. Amen.

Community Masses

All are welcome to this Wednesday’s Community Mass at 8am where we will celebrate with a Harold House Mass, we look forward to welcoming Harold House students, staff and families to this Mass.

Mass will also be celebrated Friday during break 1B. 

Gospel & Reflection

16th Sunday in Ordinary Time – 14 July - Matthew 13:24-30Pope Benedict XVI helpfully described the Gospel parables as “brief accounts that Jesus uses to proclaim the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven.” This Sunday we continue Matthew 13 with the parable of the weeds. Jesus describes a field sown with good seed, but during the night an enemy sows weed among the wheat. The farmhand is determined to pull out these weeds, but the owner calmly tells him to let the wheat and the weeds grow up together – and that in the end all will be sorted. The kingdom of heaven in this challenging parable is described as already present – inaugurated through Jesus and now present in the still interior lives of those who take up His call. The kingdom of God is within you, here and now - but is not yet complete. Good and evil, joy and sadness coexist side by side until Jesus returns. And we see the reality of this every day.

The parable also reflects God’s patience and mercy – His desire to give us all a chance to be taken by the hand. Rather than rushing to pull out the weeds the farmer gives time for all to grow. St Augustine commenting on the parable noted “many people are at first weeds but then become good grain”. Without God’s patience all of us, even the saints, are unlikely to attain a praiseworthy end. As St Teresa of Avila said, 'Patience attains all that it strives for'.

Your son Jesus invites each one of us to be transformed into good seed that bears fruit in the world. As Marists, help us build up the kingdom through the exercise of gentle patience. Through our daily choices, may we contribute to a world where Jesus becomes ‘known and loved’ - and where all people—especially our young people--can truly flourish.

Year 12 Retreats 

Year 12 retreats are an absolute highlight of our students’ journey at Marist. The three days away in early term 3 are a rare privilege that invite our senior students into a process of honest, prayerful and heartfelt reflection. Always trusting in God's love and guidance, students are supported to discern and discuss real themes about their lives and hopes for their futures. Throughout, they share moments of joy and forge deeper bonds of trust and friendship, often with peers they might not have connected with much before. This is always the hope of retreat and it was absolutely in evidence again this year. 

Our retreat leaders and staff across all four sites of Brookfield, Luther Heights, Tamborine and Lake Perseverance have expressed how impressed they were by how fully our 2026 Year 12s entered into the retreat process. 

During a year in which we have explored what it means to be full of grace, the gift of grace was alive in all of us on retreat.

A huge thanks to our retreat leaders and the staff who took time on retreat. Most of all, to our young Marist Men: you are wonderful. You are enough.

Sony Foundation Camp – 19 to 21 September 

Medical Volunteers Needed

For Sony Camp to run smoothly, we rely heavily on our medical volunteers to assist our students in their role as Companion. Our fantastic Health Centre staff are the first to volunteer their time, but we would also like to offer the opportunity to our Marist families who are either Doctors or Nurses and would be willing to volunteer some time (even just a few hours) over the camp dates.
