Boarding News

As we begin another busy and rewarding term, it is always encouraging to see the many ways our boarding community continues to connect, grow, and support one another.

This week, I have the pleasure of representing the College at the Future Room event in Goondiwindi on Wednesday evening and the Boarding Schools Expo in Moree on Thursday. These occasions provide a wonderful opportunity to meet families who are considering boarding education for their children and to share the unique experience that Marist Boarding offers. While away, we will also host a dinner for current and prospective Marist families and spend time visiting boarding families at their homes. Building and maintaining these strong connections with our regional and rural families remains an important part of our boarding culture, and I am looking forward to an enjoyable and productive week in the Goondiwindi and Moree region.

Back on campus, our academic support program resumes this week for all boarders. Supporting our students to achieve their personal best remains a priority, and we are fortunate to have a dedicated team of tutors working across each year level. Many of these tutors are members of our teaching staff, while others are highly capable university students who bring valuable knowledge and experience to the program. The initiative is expertly coordinated by our Academic Senior Supervisor, Steve Monk, who closely monitors the academic progress of every boarder, identifies areas of need, and ensures appropriate support is available. The boys benefit greatly from this personalised and well-resourced program, which encourages effort and achievement in their learning.

On Wednesday evening, our boarders will attend a preview performance of School of Rock. This promises to be a fantastic opportunity for the boys to experience musical theatre while also supporting their peers who have devoted significant time and energy to preparing for the production. Our boarders always give their time to celebrate the talents and achievements of fellow Marist students, and I am sure the performance will be enjoyed by all.

Looking ahead to the weekend, we are excited to welcome another group of prospective boarders for one of our Boarding Sleepover experiences following the Head of College Tour on Friday afternoon. These weekends provide future students with a valuable insight into daily life in the boarding community, allowing them to experience first-hand the routines, opportunities, and friendships that are such an important part of boarding at Marist. We look forward to welcoming these young men and helping them feel at home.
