Welcome to Term 3!

We have had a fantastic start to Term 3 and have been busy learning lots of new skills!

Mathematics

In Maths, we have begun learning about teen numbers. We now know that all teen numbers begin with a 1, and that this 1 represents one group of ten. We are learning that teen numbers are made up of 1 ten and some extra ones. The children are becoming quicker at recognising teen numbers and are practising keeping 10 in their heads and counting on the extra ones to find the total.

Literacy

Our literacy learning has continued to grow, and we have been developing our ability to sound out more complex words. We are now reading CCVC words (such as slip) and CVCC words (such as jump). This is a big step in our reading journey, and every student has been working incredibly hard to build this new skill. We are so proud of the effort and perseverance they are showing each day.

Writing

In Writing, we are focusing on forming our letters neatly and making them smaller using our sky, grass and dirt books. This important skill is helping prepare us for writing in our dotted thirds books later in the year. Each week we will be focusing on two letters. We are already seeing wonderful improvements in letter size, placement and handwriting.

Science Fridays

This term we are excited to introduce Science Fridays! Each Friday, we will investigate a different hands-on science experiment. These fun and engaging activities encourage students to ask questions, make predictions and explore how things work. We can't wait to share our discoveries, and we hope the children enjoy trying some of the experiments at home with their families too!
