Loving Everyone as Our Neighbour

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."John 13:34–35

In a world that often encourages us to stay within our comfortable circles, Jesus calls us to a much higher standard of love. When Scripture tells us to "love your neighbour," it is easy to assume this applies only to our immediate family, closest friends, or those who share our interests. However, Christ’s teachings make it clear that our "neighbour" is anyone God places in our path—including those who look, think, or act differently than we do.

True Christian love requires acceptance and tolerance. Acceptance means seeing every individual as a unique and valued creation made in the image of God, worthy of dignity and respect. Tolerance allows us to treat others with patience, kindness, and understanding, even when we disagree or face differences in background and perspective. By extending our hearts beyond our familiar circles, we model the universal, unconditional love of Christ and build a school community where everyone truly belongs.

Let us Pray,

Dear Lord,

Help us to open our hearts to everyone we meet in our school and wider community. Teach us to see Your face in our classmates, teachers, families,

and those in need of a friendly word.

When it is easy to love, make us grateful.

When it is difficult, grant us the patience, kindness,

and grace to choose love anyway.

May our words build others up, and may our actions reflect Your gentle compassion.

Inspire us to live out Your commandment each day—

not just in what we say, but in how we listen, include, and care for one another.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen
