Administration News

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely break in July and that Term Three has started well. I also hope it's off to a better start than my footy tipping, which has taken a turn for the worse lately. I've dropped to seventh place on the Boarding competition ladder!

So, while I may not be an expert on all things AFL, I do have a feeling we're about to see the very first #Flagmantle take out the premiership. Let's go Freo!

Okay, moving on, and now that I've likely offended more than half the readers, please join us at our upcoming Denmark Sundowner at Boston Brewery on Friday 28 August from 5.00pm.

You're welcome to debate the footy with me while enjoying a catch-up on all that's happening at GSG. As always, our Sundowner events welcome past, present and future families of the school. Bring the family, bring a friend, and enjoy a drink and some delicious food on us.

Another event I'm looking forward to is our Yalari Family Day on Friday 21 August. It will be wonderful to meet our Yalari families and put a few more names to faces. Opportunities to have our students and families together on site are priceless, and we are incredibly excited to be part of this special occasion.

Lastly, please take a moment to review the information below regarding the upcoming Boarders' Closed Weekend. We also have the Boarding Parent Committee Meeting scheduled for Friday 21 August, along with links to register for the boarding bus service (if required) to help get your child or children to and from home over the weekend.

Leave Submission Deadlines

To ensure smooth processing and timely approval of leave, please note the following requirements:

  • Weekend Leave: enter into REACH by Thursday.
  • Long Weekend Leave: enter one week prior.
  • Holiday Leave: enter two weeks prior.
  • Travel Outside the Great Southern Region (long weekend or holidays): enter two weeks prior, regardless of leave type.

Host Requirements and Conditions of Leave

To add a new leave host, please email boarding@gsg.wa.edu.au with the host's full name, mobile number, and relationship to the student (e.g., grandparent, family friend, coach).

  • Local Contact: A local / Albany contact (family member or friend) should be nominated at the time of enrolment for emergency situations (e.g. illness).
  • Approved Hosts: Families must only nominate adult hosts (18+) for their child. Boarders then select from this list when entering leave in REACH. Please discuss leave plans with your child to ensure you are comfortable with any request submitted.
  • Host Changes: Only a parent or guardian can request changes to a boarder’s host list. Requests must be submitted in writing to boarding@gsg.wa.edu.au or the Head of Boarding House (email/text).
  • Leave Duration: Standard overnight weekend leave runs from 3.30pm Friday to 5.30pm Sunday. We ask that boarders return by 5.30pm wherever possible.
  • Late Returns: If a student returns late, the host must contact the Boarding Supervisor before the expected return time to explain the reason and provide a new ETA. Repeated unexplained late returns may result in follow‑up from the boarding staff.
  • Changes to Leave: Students are not allowed to contact the bus drivers directly and make ‘on-the-go' changes to their approved leave. Students or families must discuss changes with the Supervisor on duty at their boarding house.
