From the Directors of Boarding

It has been a fantastic start to Term Three here at Great Southern Grammar Boarding. The atmosphere and energy across the boarding precinct have been incredibly positive, with plenty of smiles and laughter as students gather each evening in the dining hall for dinner.

We are excited to once again host our Yalari Family Day on Friday 21 August, the final Friday before the closed weekend. This is always a wonderful occasion and a valuable opportunity to connect with the families of some of our boarding students, many of whom live in remote regions across Western Australia and are several flights away from Albany.

The day will provide families with the opportunity to spend time with their children, meet teachers and Heads of House from the day school, and, if they wish, attend the Boarding Parent Committee meeting.

The event was a great success last year, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming families again in 2026.

We have also had the pleasure of welcoming two new staff members to the boarding community. Josie Western and Curtis Mumford have recently joined our supervision team and have already made a positive impact on students through their caring and enthusiastic approach. Their warm and supportive demeanour has been evident from day one.

We are also delighted that Grace Larham is continuing with us this semester. Last term, Grace did an outstanding job as Senior Supervisor in Endeavour House, providing a tremendous amount of pastoral care and support for students during Nyree's absence. Her continued presence is wonderful news for our boarding community.

Boarding has also welcomed three new GAP Assistants who will be working across both boarding and the day school over the next 12 months. Ted Lloyd and Hamish Arnold have joined us from England, while Kim Farquhar has travelled from Scotland. Kim and Ted will be based in Endeavour House, while Hamish will be working in Eclipse House. Jodi continues in the role in Breaksea House and has done an exceptional job mentoring the new GAP Assistants and helping them settle quickly into the school and boarding environment.

From all reports so far, Ted, Hamish and Kim have already formed strong connections with our boarders. Staff have spoken highly of their enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to contribute, and we are grateful for the time and energy they have invested in our boarding program. We look forward to the positive impact they will continue to make throughout the year.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our boarding community. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you would like to discuss any aspect of your child's boarding experience. We are here to help and are committed to supporting both you and your child in every way we can.
