2025 - A Year of Hope

Pope Francis has declared 2025 a year of Jubilee. The tradition of a Jubilee Year can be found in the Old Testament, (The book, Leviticus, chapter 25). A Jubilee year is held every 25 years and is a special year where we experience God's Mercy through the renewal of our faith, the sacraments, reading the Bible, Prayer and Pilgrimage. As we live in a world suffering the consequences of ongoing Wars, Pandemics and various woes, it is vital that us Catholics renew ourselves as people of Hope amidst troubled times.

Some ways we can be people of Hope this year, is through:

-Reading the Bible often (Getting to know the faith and God)

-Going to Confession (Experiencing God as a kind Father through his Forgiveness)

-Holy Mass (Receiving Jesus)

-Prayers (Conversations with God and receiving His Love.)

-Visiting Churches such as: St Maroun’s Cathedral (Redfern, NSW) Our Lady of Lebanon Co-Cathedral (Harris Park, NSW) St Charbel’s Church & Shrine (Punchbowl, NSW)

- Works of Mercy & Penance – Acts of charity (e.g., helping the sick, poor, or migrants) and penitential practices (e.g., fasting, avoiding distractions, or charitable giving)

In our efforts of becoming witnesses of Hope this year, may we shine the light of Christ on those experiencing darkness.

Year 12 Reflection Day

On February 7th, Y12 students came together for an enriching Spiritual Retreat Day. The day began with the Divine Liturgy and Reconciliation. Fr. Charbel Dib, then led a powerful spiritual talk that guided us through deep reflection and connection. It was a day of growth and contemplation, offering a space to embrace life after college with clarity and purpose through many workshops. The retreat set the stage for a bright and meaningful future ahead.

St Maroun's Feast & Honour Day Mass

On Friday 14th February 2025, MCHF celebrated the feast of St Maroun, the founder and father of our Maronite Church. On this special day we also celebrated Honour Day, which is an occasion to celebrate the achievements of our 2024 HSC graduating class.

During the Mass, our 2024 HSC high achievers were recognised for their outstanding results. Our 2024 DUX, Hannah Habib, addressed the staff and students reflecting on her learning and journey towards completing her HSC and setting herself up for tertiary education. Following Mass, the 2024 graduating class, their families, and staff were invited to a morning tea.

Once again congratulations to our 2024 HSC graduating class on their results and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours.

Mr Elie Asmar

Thank you to Student photographers, Elyssa Wehbe, (Year 9), and Isabella Ishac, (Year 11 ) for capturing images in mass.

Feeding the Homeless

Year 12 students kicked off the school year with the first homeless feed initiative of this year, preparing and distributing meals to those in need. The experience deepened their empathy and commitment to making a positive impact, setting a strong foundation for a year of community service.

Aged Care Visit

Year 11 students had the wonderful opportunity to visit the residents of "Our Lady Mercy Place" in Harris Park.

"Visiting the nursing home today was a truly heart warming experience. I had the privilege of meeting residents with fascinating life stories, each offering their wisdom and warmth. Despite the challenges that come with aging, the staff’s care and compassion created a comforting environment. It was a reminder of the importance of kindness, connection, and respect for those who have lived through so much. I left feeling grateful for the opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect on how vital it is to cherish and care for our elderly community." (Josie Afram, Year 11).
