David Malouf, one of Australia’s most beloved authors died recently leaving behind a vast array of works. “ Set out at any hour from behind an inkwell” is the opening line of one of Malouf’s poems which invites us into his creative world. Malouf was born in 1934 to first generation migrants, a Lebanese-Melkite Christian father and a European Jewish mother. He started out as a teacher in England and travelled extensively around Europe where he honed his writing skills then returning to Australia in 1968 to work on a number of novels as well as writing poetry. One of our ebooks by David Malouf is “Ransom” which retells Homer’s “Illiad”. Malouf explores the thoughts and feelings of the aged, grieving King Priam and the furious avenger Achilles. Associate Professor Brigid Rooney described Malouf as a writer of wisdom, grace and generosity.
