Principal's Press

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We are approaching the end of Term 2 and are thankful for the many great activities that have been occurring in our College. Trivia night was excellent this week and it was exciting to hear from Remy Chadwick and the work he leads in teaching the gospel to children in our local public schools. There remains high demand from families in these schools wanting their children to learn Christian beliefs. Remy is the local coordinator of Special Religious Education (SRE, often known as scripture in schools). Our trivia night is an initiative of our Secondary School student leaders to raise funds and awareness of the SRE program to help support their work and a chance for us to say thank you to Remy and his team. We encourage all families to be praying for this work as it is a unique and amazing opportunity to teach children about Jesus who may not otherwise hear the bible.

This term we also launched the Principal’s Reading Challenge, and it has been a delight to see many students and families visiting and borrowing books from the library. The library has a wide range of new books, and I’ve enjoyed seeing students finding joy in new books. This challenge continues throughout the year and students are encouraged to continue reading (an excellent holiday activity!). One aspect of the challenge is learning to read non-fiction and Christian books, some of these are less story driven and could be more easily read in short sections each day, rather than extended reading. Some books are great family reads and work best to be read aloud as part of your family reading routine. We will soon be celebrating the first group of students to complete their Bronze challenges – and are excited that a couple students have already completed the Gold challenge!

As we approach the coming holiday period, please know that we are praying for your family.

College Office Closed – Monday 6 July

  • On the first day of holidays, we are taking the opportunity to undertake some significant network upgrades. As a result, phone lines will be down for the day, and the College Office will be closed. We are expecting the office to be open again from Tuesday 7 July. Please feel welcome to contact the office if you have any questions over the holiday period.

Students Return for Term 3 on 27 July

  • This school holiday period is a three-week break for students, and we hope they are able to rest well (and for Year 10 – to enjoy some work experience as they explore career ideas and prepare for subject selection). In the third week of the holidays, all staff have a professional development week.

Sample New Design White Shirts

  • As outlined in my letter earlier this term, we have been seeking to review the College uniform in response to parent, student and staff feedback last year. Samples of the new designs for the white shirts (boys/girls, winter/summer) are now available in the College office for viewing.

We’d love to hear your feedback before we decide whether to go ahead with this change. Feel free to email me directly or leave a note at the office when you visit.

Semester 1 Reports

  • Semester 1 reports will be issued to parents at the end of Term 2. These reports contain important feedback on your child’s learning, engagement and how well they are displaying College values of integrity, diligence, respect and kindness. Reports are issued through the College Compass platform, and parents will receive an email when they are released and ready for viewing.

This semester we have prepared a new report format, increasing the specific learning feedback that you receive.

Staff Updates

It is with sadness that we share that Mr Simon Harrison has given notice of resignation from the College at the end of Term 2 to start his own local business. His innovation for education will be missed by the College. The College is now recruiting for a New Learning Leader of Technology / Agriculture.

We are excited to share that Mrs Elize Delport is returning the College as Office Administrator. Elize worked previously in the office and as her family returns to Wagga Wagga, she is also returning to work with us.

We met with Mrs Rebecca Foster recently and are excited to see that her health has been improving though still fragile after her recent surgery. Please continue to uphold her in your prayers. She is hoping to visit the College soon but is not yet ready to return to work. The College has appointed Miss Gabby Miller to cover the 4F class for the rest of the year and are thankful to have her in place to provide stability for the class.

Miss Milla McGill has also joined the College as Community Relations Assistant, working with Mrs Dani Van Berkel. We are excited to have her join the community team as an alumni to the College! She comes with a background in graphics and marketing and will be helping us review and strengthen our communications for the College - we hope you've been enjoying her work already!
