Year 10 -12 Tertiary Day
107 students in Yrs 10, 11 and 12 attended the annual Wagga Wagga Tertiary Day at the Range Function Centre.
Our students were highly engaged, and there were plenty of interesting conversations with the dozens of tertiary providers present on the day. These included Universities, TAFE’s, Private Training Organisations, NESA, Defence, NSW Police, Local Businesses, Apprenticeship and Traineeship Agencies and so much more.
From Traineeships and HSC advice to University Degrees and Scholarships, our students discovered an enormous array of possibilities for their future.
Being able to talk to people from all around the country, face to face, and receive just-in-time, personalised advice firsthand was a highlight, particularly for our current Year 12’s as they get closer to the end of their Secondary schooling years.
For Year 10’s, there were some enlightening moments as they considered their options for post High School work and study, and this also helped inform their decisions around subject selections coming up later in the year.
Whodunnit!
Students in Year 9 and 10 had to get sleuthing after a small-time (and altogether fictitious) criminal was found dead in a local national park. All fingers were pointed at an obvious suspect, but soon what had been an open and shut case turned into something altogether more complex.
Students had to keep their wits about them as they learned how police and scientists solve crimes using evidence from sources including autopsy reports, weapon ballistics, clothing fibres, fingerprints, vehicle tracks, DNA and much more.
After analysing the evidence (and the workshop’s enigmatic presenter), the students were able to piece together the motive and chain of events, leading them to the true killer’s identity. Case closed!
Blessed are the Trivia masters!
What a great time of fun and community we had at our Secondary School Trivia on Tuesday night! Well done to the Secondary School Student Leadership Team for their hard work to prepare and present this event. Thank you also to the staff who supported the students. Funds raised are supporting SRE and school projects. We were blessed to hear a bit about the valuable work of SRE from Remy Chadwick, the SRE Coordinator for this region.
Congratulations to the winning teams!
From the Head of Secondary School:
Committee 4 Wagga
The C4W hosts a Student Leaders program each year which the College has participated in since its inception. This year the College was represented by Year 11 students Shaianne, Ella and Hugh who experienced challenges and growth through the program. They participated in several modules, covering self-leadership through to how that interacts with others and our community.
Some observations from the students:
Throughout the leadership program, I learned the importance of effective communication, teamwork, and adapting my leadership style to different situations. One of my biggest takeaways was understanding that strong leaders listen to others, build positive relationships, and help create an environment where everyone feels valued. I particularly enjoyed making new friends and connecting with students from other schools I may not have met otherwise. The high ropes activities were a great activity to highlight the importance of teamwork which was a lot of fun. The program also helped me improve my public speaking skills, making me feel more comfortable sharing my ideas in front of others. Overall, the experience was both enjoyable and rewarding, helping me grow as a leader and grow in who I am, as we reflected on our personal traits and values.
Ella, Year 11
What I learned most from the Committee 4 Wagga Leadership Program was that leadership starts with understanding yourself and building trust with others. My highlights were the high ropes course at Kapooka, which pushed me outside my comfort zone, and learning about the DISC model, which helped me better understand different communication styles. My advice to future participants is to embrace every opportunity, step outside your comfort zone, and be open to learning from the people around you, as you'll gain valuable skills, confidence, and friendships along the way.
Shaianne, Year 11
Committee 4 Wagga was great. In a cohort of 18 people, we learnt new skills based around leadership and personal identity. My favourite module was our Kapooka trip. We did the high ropes course which without a doubt was everyone's favourite. Mentors were also amazing as we could learn from people in the working world and leaders in their respective fields. Committee 4 Wagga was a great way to explore future careers and gain lots of different skills you can use in the future.
Hugh, Year 11
