Senior Production: The 39 Steps
This year, our Year 11 Elective Drama students had the exciting opportunity to bring a full theatrical production to life as part of their curriculum studies.
Throughout the project, students explored the many roles that contribute to a successful theatre production, developing an understanding of acting, directing, design, marketing, stage management, and technical theatre.
Drawing on these skills, students staged The 39 Steps, Patrick Barlow's fast-paced and comedic adaptation of the classic thriller. The production was performed across two evenings on Monday 27 July and Tuesday 28 July, with an additional matinee performance for our intermediate Elective Drama students.
The production showcased the talent, creativity, and dedication of our students. Beyond their performances on stage, students took responsibility for many aspects of the production process, gaining invaluable experience in collaborative theatre-making. Special congratulations and thanks go to Will (G11), Elsa (C11) and Lina (C11) for their assistance with directing, Alby (G11) for creating the promotional materials, and Indiana (C11), for her exceptional Front of House designs.
A production of this scale would not be possible without the commitment of our student technical crew, whose expertise and dedication transformed ideas into reality. These students generously gave their time through countless rehearsals and performance preparations including lunch times, afterschool, and weekends to ensure every lighting cue, sound effect, set change, and technical element ran seamlessly. We extend our sincere gratitude to Remy (G10), Harry (G10), Harli (G10), Scarlett (C10), George (G10), Beau (C10), Jasmine (C10) and Isabella (C10) for their outstanding contributions.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Ms Larissa Wenman (HOD Visual Arts and Photography) and Indiana (C10) for their photography, capturing the energy, creativity, and memorable moments of the production as you see below. Their images will serve as a lasting record of the students' achievements.
Special thanks are also due to the Dance/Drama faculty Ms Rebekah Humphries, Ms Amaris Leong, and Caroline Fechner for their invaluable administrative support throughout the production process. Their assistance behind the scenes helped ensure the success of the event, and we are incredibly grateful for their ongoing dedication and support of the Drama program.
Congratulations to all Year 11 Elective Drama students on their hard work, professionalism, and enthusiasm throughout this project. The 39 Steps was a tremendous success and a testament to the creativity, teamwork, and resilience of our young theatre-makers.
