Pi Day House Competition Assembly - 2026

To celebrate Approximate Pi Day (22/7), the School came together for the annual Pi Day House Competition Assembly, a morning filled with mathematics, fun and plenty of House spirit.

The main event saw students compete to recite as many decimal places of π as possible from memory. Congratulations to Jade (C10), who was crowned the overall winner, with Frederick (G10) and Alexa (CG11) finishing as runners-up after outstanding performances.

A fun addition to this year's competition was the House Karaoke Competition. Each House sat together, creating a fantastic atmosphere and encouraging plenty of friendly rivalry. Students enthusiastically supported their House Captains, and the competition was won by Morgan, whose rendition of Don't Stop Believin' was certainly a sight to behold and had the audience thoroughly entertained.

Another highlight was our impromptu One-Minute Pi World Record Challenge. The current world record stands at 598 decimal places in one minute, an astonishing feat of memory. To inspire this year's competitors, we welcomed back Lloyd (P6), last year's overall Pi Day champion, as a special guest judge. Lloyd then demonstrated his remarkable talent by reciting 300 decimal places of π in just one minute. While he did not quite break the world record, it was a truly remarkable achievement and one of the highlights of the morning.

The ever-popular Teacher Challenge also returned. Mr Goldrick's name was drawn from the hat and he confidently accepted the challenge. While the target was to recite just 10 decimal places of π, Mr Goldrick comfortably exceeded expectations by accurately reciting 20 decimal places, earning enthusiastic applause from students and staff.

We would also like to acknowledge the outstanding work of our Tech Crew, led by Harry (G10), whose professionalism ensured the assembly ran smoothly from beginning to end. A special mention also goes to Reilly (CG11), who designed and handcrafted the impressive trophy awarded to the overall winner. His creativity, skill and generosity added an extra special touch to this year's event.

Congratulations also to Butterworth House, who were crowned the overall House Champions after a strong performance across the morning's events. It was wonderful to see so many parts of the school community come together to support an event that celebrates both mathematics and school spirit. The enthusiasm, participation and friendly competition on display made the 2026 Pi Day House Competition Assembly a memorable occasion for everyone involved.
