GRANDPARENTS' DAY- Celebrating the gift of Family and Faith
On Tuesday our school community was blessed to celebrate Grandparents' Day, a special occasion dedicated to honouring the invaluable role grandparents play in the lives of our children and families.
The day began with grandparents and special friends visiting classrooms where they were warmly welcomed by their grandchildren. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to proudly share their learning and their school environment. Not all Grandparents were able to make it and there were many parents, aunties and neighbours in as substitutes. A clever few grandparents even managed to connect with their loved ones in the classroom via facetime!
It wasn't just about seeing students at work as visitors joined in games, enjoyed musical performances, created craft activities and completed fun surveys together. It was the opportunity for our students to simply spend quality time with some of the most important people in their lives. The smiles, laughter and conversations shared throughout the morning were a wonderful reminder of the special bond that exists between generations.
The school lift certainly received a good workout as grandparents made their way between classrooms! There were also many joyful reunions, with grandparents recognising friends and acquaintances from years gone by. These unexpected moments of connection added another special dimension to the day, reminding us that our school community is strengthened by relationships that span generations.
Following the classroom visits, everyone gathered in the school hall for a delicious morning tea. This provided another opportunity for grandparents, families and staff to connect, share stories and celebrate the wonderful sense of community that makes our school so special.
The celebrations concluded with Mass in the church, where we gave thanks to God for the love, wisdom and guidance that grandparents bring to our families. Together we prayed for all grandparents, asking God's blessing upon them and remembering with gratitude those who are no longer with us.
Our celebration came just days after the Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of Mary and the grandparents of Jesus. Although little is recorded about them in Scripture, the Church honours them as faithful people who helped nurture Mary's faith and, through her, became part of God's plan of salvation. They remind us that faith is often passed from one generation to the next through the quiet witness of love, prayer and faithful example.
Grandparents are often the strong roots of faith within families. They share stories, offer encouragement, teach values, pray with and for their grandchildren, and remind us of God's constant presence throughout life's journey. Their wisdom, patience and unconditional love help strengthen the faith of future generations.
We extend our sincere thanks to all the grandparents and special family members who joined us for this memorable celebration. Your presence enriched our day and reminded us of the important role you play in nurturing both the hearts and the faith of our students. May God continue to bless you with good health, joy and the love of your families.
