School Sports - What's Happening
NETBALL CARNIVAL
On Wednesday 29 March, our Grade 6 students travelled to the Golden City Netball Complex to compete in the Bendigo and District Schools Netball Carnival. We entered both a Girls Team and a Mixed Team, with each team playing approximately seven games in a round robin format throughout the day.
Our Girls Team had an outstanding day competing in the Division 1 competition. They won six of their seven matches, with their only loss coming against St Therese’s. The team played some excellent netball and showed great determination throughout the carnival. Unfortunately, they narrowly missed out on enough points to qualify for the final and progress to the next stage of the competition.
Our Mixed Team also enjoyed a fantastic day of netball. While they recorded one win for the carnival, it was especially pleasing to see several students representing Holy Rosary for the first time at an interschool sporting event. They embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm and gave their best effort in every game.
We were incredibly proud of all of our students, who represented Holy Rosary in a wonderful manner. They displayed excellent sportsmanship, encouraged one another throughout the day, and demonstrated the values we strive for both on and off the court.
A huge thank you to former Holy Rosary student Bella Holland for volunteering her time to help umpire throughout the day. We greatly appreciated her support, and it was nice to welcome her back to Holy Rosary.
A special mention must also go to our fantastic coaches, Mrs DeAraugo and Miss Spence. We were very fortunate to have them lead our teams, and the students thoroughly enjoyed having them as coaches.
Finally, thank you to the parents and families who came along to support our students. Your encouragement helped make the day such a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
GIRLS REPORT
On Wednesday the 22nd of July, Miss Spence took the Grade 6 netballers to Red Energy Arena to play against all the different Div 1 school teams. It was a good day for the girls playing 7 games with 8-minute half's with only a 1-minute interchange. Our team consisted of 8 girls with 1 on the bench. We had 1 game rest after every game we played. Overall, we played well, winning every game except 1 to St Therese's, it was a tough game. Miss Spence was a great coach for us, supportive throughout the day, we really appreciated it! We were thrilled of how well we played.

We were very close to making finals except for St Therese’s beating us by 6 points.
The players were: Leila P, Isla P, Bailey M, Mila M, Annabelle R, Evie K, Amy V and Ivy F.
We had quite an amazing and strong team, although we didn’t make finals the girls were very optimistic throughout it. We want to say a massive thank you: Umpires, coaches, players and parents you all made the day very fun for us. We want to say a special thank you to Bella H for umpiring us, without you we wouldn’t have been able to play. We also are very grateful to our PE teacher Mr Coates for organising the day. Thank you so much to Miss Spence for coaching us on the day and the lead up before the day we all appreciate it so much.

MIXED TEAM REPORT
The grade six mixed team played well in the school netball competition, even though they only won one game they played with spirt and sportsmanship and a tough defence. Holy Rosary won their first game against Victory by two points. They didn't win another game but played with a good mind set by losing by a couple points in most games. In the end the Holy Rosary mixed team played with heart and compassion. Even though we had a tough competition we still tried our best. Big shoutout for Mrs De Araugo for coaching our team and sharing the positions around.

FOOTBALL CARNIVAL
On Tuesday 21st July, Holy Rosary Primary School proudly competed in the Divisional Football Carnival held at CMC, with both a boys' and girls' team representing our school.
Both teams competed exceptionally well throughout the day and were highly competitive in every match. While each team recorded one win, they were also involved in several closely contested games that could have gone either way. Our students demonstrated determination, teamwork, and resilience in every contest, making our school community extremely proud.
A special thank you goes to Dave Cini for coaching the boys' team. Dave did an incredible job throughout the day, and the students thoroughly enjoyed having him as their coach. We greatly appreciate him generously volunteering his time and sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with our students.
We would also like to thank all the family members and friends who came along to support our teams. Your encouragement from the sidelines was greatly appreciated and helped create a wonderful atmosphere for the students.
Most importantly, our students not only played outstanding football but also demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship throughout the carnival.
Well done to all players on a fantastic day of football!
GIRLS FOOTBALL REPORT
On the 21st of July, some of the grade 5 & 6 girls went out to CMC and played 4 games of football. The girls played White Hills, Strathfieldsaye, St Francis, and Marist. They won against Marist and lost against the others. Even though they only won one game they played very well and gave it their all in every game. The coach for the girls (Mr Geary) did a very good job at coaching and was very honest with his feedback to the girls. We thank him for giving up his time and effort to coach us, thank you once again. Congrats to all the girls for playing their hardest and giving it a try. Those girls were, Mila M, Annabelle R, Arlie B, Leila P, Evie K, Indi J, Bailey M, Frankie C, Azlyn B, Ivy F, Isla P, Amy V, Senna C, Bridget F, Layla P, Millie W, Millson G, Chase J, and Harriet M. Great job everyone thanks for playing.

BOYS FOOTBALL REPORT
Today the grade 5s and 6s Charlie M, Charlie D, Indy, Ollie, Paddy W, Paddy O, Will R, Will B, Hudson, Ruben, Eman, Tarkyn, Remy, Isaac, Jack, Jobe, Zane, Lucas & Hamish had a nice day out at CMC playing footy. The boys had a good day winning one game and nearly winning the other four games they played. They enjoyed the whole day and met many friends from all the other schools including Kennington, Marist, Maiden Gully, White Hills and Spring Gully. They had a very good coach (Dave Chini) and assistant coach (Troy Coates) letting everybody participate and have a go getting the footy.

HOLY ROSARY ATHLETICS CARNIVAL - FRIDAY 7th AUGUST
On Friday 7th August, we will be having our school athletics carnival. This will be held at the Flora Hill Athletics Track.
Grade 3 - 6 events will be from 9:45am to 2:30pm (Please see PAM note attachment for event times)
Foundation to Grade 2 events will be from 11am - 1pm.
The carnival is a fantastic day for all of our students to participate in a range of sporting events to the best of their ability. Please feel free to come and support our school and our kids!
Some Important Information:•
- We have been lucky enough to have CMC students assist at each event on the day.
- Your child is asked to wear their house colours for the day. If you are unsure of what your child’s colour is, please see your classroom teacher.
- Students need to bring a hat, water bottle and food for the day.
There will be no canteen at the track, normal packed lunch for the students.

The next level is the Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival, which will be held on Thursday 20th August at the Flora Hill Athletics Track. Students in Grades 3 to 6 will be notified if they make this event. Please note that 9yr old students can only make it through in shot put, long jump, hurdles and 100m. Students finishing 1st & 2nd in each event will be offered a spot in those events for the Catholic Schools Carnival. However, each student can only compete in 3 individual events. Should they qualify for more than 3, they will have to choose their preferred events and then the spot is offered to the next highest finishing student.

A reminder to parents, that as per the CES Child Safety Policy - Photographing, Filming and Recording (Students), we ask that parents consider the 'risks of publishing the photographs or videos/recordings/films and how to best protect the students’ safety and privacy.' As such, we ask that parents be mindful that they do not include other student's in any photos they take, as much as is practicable and that they consider the privacy of their own and other's children, when sharing photos taken at school events.
