Principal's News

Dear SMCM Community, Wominjeka!
Congratulations to the students in our Divisional Swim team who have competed at Broadmeadows Aquatic Centre today. All team members should be very proud of the way they represented our school. Congratulations to Alex and Tom who moves on to the next round of competition!
Fundraising at SMCM
At SMCM, our strength has always been the partnership between school and families. When we work together with a shared purpose, we are able to create spaces and opportunities that truly enhance learning, wellbeing and community life for our students.
Over the past 18 months, your generosity through our School Fair and other fundraising events has helped raise an incredible $60,000. This contribution has gone towards the installation of glass walls in our learning spaces, a significant project totalling $400,000. These glass walls have transformed our environments, allowing for flexible, focused learning while maintaining connection and collaboration across our Learning Communities. Your support has made a visible and lasting impact.
2026 Fundraising Focus
This Term we continue with our Frozen Fridays raising funds for a Gaga Pit. This is a fantastic way for our students to see their contributions come to life. I strongly encourage small jobs around the house as a way to earn their gold coin for Frozen Friday.
Our two major fundraising events for 2026 are:
- Easter Raffle – Thank you to families for your generous Easter egg donations. Raffle tickets will be sent home next week and prizes drawn on Wednesday 1st April.
Colour Run – Friday 1st May A highlight of the year! We encourage families to share sponsorship links widely and help us make this event another great success.
Over the next two years, all fundraising efforts will support the refurbishment of our ‘paddock’ area. Our vision is to install:
- A synthetic turf AFL oval with cricket pitches
A second synthetic turf soccer pitch
This project has been costed at approximately $500,000, so every contribution, big or small, will help. These upgraded facilities will provide safe, high-quality spaces for sport, play and community events for many years to come.
Thank you for the many ways you support our school - through donations, sponsorship, volunteering, encouragement and participation. Your partnership allows us to continue growing our facilities and opportunities for our students.
Celebrating Leadership at SMCM
On Tuesday evening, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) launched their Vision for Leadership, the third framework within the Flourishing Learners strategy. This new framework now sits alongside the Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement,
We are very proud that Sarah Spiteri, our Education in Faith Leader, was invited to contribute to the evening as a panel speaker alongside Dr Daniel Groenwald. Sarah shared her insights on how the Vision for Leadership can support the growth of emerging leaders in Catholic schools. Speaking to a room of more than 100 MACS principals and leaders, including the Hon. Ben Carroll, Minister for Education, Sarah represented our school with confidence, clarity and authenticity. Her thoughtful contribution was met with spontaneous applause from the audience, an acknowledgement of both her leadership and the important perspectives she shared.
We are incredibly fortunate at SMCM to have a team of strong, capable and knowledgeable leaders who support the growth of our staff, students and community each day. I am deeply grateful to our leadership team for the commitment, care and wisdom they bring to their roles and for the way they model leadership that is grounded in faith, service and a genuine desire to help others flourish.
As we journey through this Lenten season, may we grow closer to God and to one another as a community of hope and faith.
