Victorian President's Report

We extend our sincere concern and support to our colleague and fellow Principal Aaron Sykes of Keysborough Secondary College following the deeply distressing incident that occurred earlier this week. Our thoughts are with Aaron, his family, his staff, and the entire school community as they continue to process and recover from this event.

While incidents of this nature are extremely rare in our system, they serve as a reminder of the unique responsibilities and, at times, the vulnerability faced by school leaders as they carry out their duties. Principals consistently demonstrate calm leadership, professionalism and care, even in circumstances that are unexpected and confronting.

We acknowledge the swift response and support provided by the Department of Education, including immediate wellbeing assistance and practical guidance to the school. This coordinated effort has ensured that students, staff and the principal team have access to the care they need during this challenging period.
