Donations Needed for Visual Arts

This term, students in Years 1 and 2 will be creating moving cardboard sculptures. To support these lessons, we are looking for donations of cardboard in various shapes and sizes.

We are looking for cardboard tubes (no toilet rolls, please, for hygiene reasons), boxes, and both thin and thick corrugated cardboard. The more, the better! We are also looking for a couple of large TV or whitegoods boxes to help us store all the donated cardboard.

In addition to cardboard, we would appreciate donations of the following items:

  • Large yoghurt tubs with lids
  • Plastic cheese containers
  • Empty plastic vitamin bottles
  • Wool
  • Ribbon (curling or fabric)
  • Pringles tubs (or similar)

Your support in collecting these items would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping us provide students with exciting opportunities to create and explore in Visual Arts!

Knox Westfield Community Art Project

At Westfield Knox, the Christmas school art display is a popular annual tradition. The shopping centre partners with local primary schools to showcase festive creativity, providing schools with large, custom Christmas shapes, such as gingerbread men and stars, to decorate. These student-designed creations are then displayed throughout the shopping centre during the Christmas season.

Karoo PS will be participating again this year, creating a GIANT STAR! Keep an eye out for information in your class's weekly Compass post, as the whole Karoo school community will be invited to join in and help create an amazing display.

Performing Arts

Year 3 and 4 Performing Arts

Year 3 and 4 students have kicked off Term 4 by exploring music and dance from around the world! This week, they travelled to Mexico to discover the vibrant traditions of Mexican folkloric dance. Students learned the famous Mexican Hat Dance, Jarabe Tapatío, and had a wonderful time practising the dance moves and performing in small groups.

To extend their learning, students also used tuned percussion instruments to play along with the music, exploring rhythm, melody and coordination. It has been fantastic to see students embracing new musical and dance experiences while discovering the rich cultural traditions of another country!
