Wellbeing

This term, our whole-school wellbeing learning continues through Respectful Relationships (RR) and School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS). These lessons give students from Prep to Year 6 regular opportunities to develop respectful relationships, positive behaviours, and important social and emotional skills.
A major focus of our Respectful Relationships learning in Term 4 is gender norms and stereotypes. Students will explore what it means to be inclusive and fair, challenge stereotypes and recognise that interests, strengths, activities and opportunities are for everyone. These lessons focus on character strengths including courage, tolerance and compassion.
Later in the term, learning progresses to positive gender relationships, with students exploring how we treat everyone equally and build relationships based on fairness, respect and inclusion. The learning is age-appropriate and differs across year levels, with our senior students spending additional time exploring this content.
Alongside Respectful Relationships, our SWPBS lessons continue to explicitly teach and reinforce the behaviours that help everyone learn, play and belong at Old Orchard. Term 4 topics include:
- being responsible and wearing our uniform and SunSmart hat with pride
- respecting learning tasks and school resources
- taking responsibility for our belongings and equipment
- keeping our workspaces organised and tidy
representing Old Orchard with pride.
Throughout these lessons, students are encouraged to practise character strengths such as honesty, courage, fairness, compassion, tolerance, trustworthiness and self-control. Our aim is for these skills to extend well beyond the wellbeing lesson itself and become part of how students interact with others, approach their learning and contribute to our school community.
We look forward to another positive term of learning, kindness, inclusion, and respect at Old Orchard, and during the term, we will also share some classroom activities you can adapt to explore at home.
