Welcome

Wawa, Wominjika.
Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us. We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.
Welcome back to our Old Orchard community for what promises to be a Term 4 filled with great learning, challenges, achievements and a multitude of special events and activities. I trust that you all enjoyed a safe, relaxing holiday with family and friends.
Mia’s Art Award
One of the things that we love to do at Old Orchard is to celebrate the achievements of our students, both within and outside of school. Recently, Year 5 student Mia M received acknowledgement for her incredible artistic talent. Mia's fabulous artwork below earned her a Very Highly Commended award at the Melbourne Royal Show.
Congratulations to Mia on this great achievement.
Homework Club
This year we have trialled a weekly afterschool homework club for our year 3 - 6 students. Across term 2 and 3 we have had some terrific success with a group of dedicated learners attending most weeks. Within these sessions students have developed regular homework routines managing their time, extending their concentration and revising work covered in class. Congratulations to each of our regular attendees and thank you to the teaching staff supervising the sessions.
Given the success of the club we will look to run it once again and hopefully expand it in Term 1 of 2027. Stay tuned for details.
Footy Colours Day
On the last day of Term 3, we held our annual Footy Day, complete with special lunches organised by Fiona Kirby, Sheree Knight & Pip Cariss. In total, we raised an amazing $1389.00 which has been donated to the Fight Cancer Foundation. We well and truly surpassed our goal of $1,000 and thank our families for their generosity.
Thank you also to parents Trish McGhie, Dani Trajkoska and Sarah Alligan for helping to prepare the lunch orders.
School Security
A reminder that the pedestrian gates to our school automatically lock each day between 9.15am and 3.15pm. If you are coming to school for any reason during this time (including assemblies) you will need to enter the school via the main office gate on Koonung Road. These procedures have been implemented in the interest of student safety.
Trivia Night
Our trivia night is shaping up to be a fantastic night. It's not too late to get a table together or join another one. Full details on this event can be found in the "Helpful Reminders" section of the newsletter.
A few quick ‘best wishes.’
To all of our former Old Orchard students, as well as other members of our school community who are about to embark on their Year 12 exams, we wish them well for the exams and for whatever is beyond at this important stage in their lives.
Congratulations to former Old Orchard student, Caelan Gray, who has been selected as one of the 2027 school captains at Blackburn High School.
Good luck to Year 4 teacher, Jen Males, as well to other members of the Old Orchard community, as they ready themselves for the Melbourne Marathon this Sunday.
Warm regards,
Duncan
