Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
If you went into the woods on Wednesday, you were sure of a big surprise! For the Foundation students and their Year 6 Buddy held their annual Teddy Bears Picnic. What fun was had as buddies did a ‘compare and contrast’ activity where the students looked at the differences and similarities between their teddies/soft toys, which aligns to their Inquiry unit learning celebrating differences. They then all got to enjoy a picnic together for lunch.
National Walk Safely to School Day
Today we celebrated National Walk Safely to School Day with a wonderful community atmosphere and plenty of excitement across the school. A huge thank you to Leigh Barry and our SRC students for their organisation and enthusiasm in helping make the event such a success. There were also a number of staff and parent volunteers helping today for which we are very grateful. Thank you everyone.
Students enjoyed using the bike and blend bikes to power their own delicious smoothies — a fun and active way to promote healthy lifestyles and sustainable travel. It was fantastic to see so many students and families involved and enjoying the morning together. What a fantastic event! Read more in the SRC report of Capers.
Education Week - Open Day
As part of Education Week, we proudly opened our doors yesterday to showcase our fabulous school community in action. It was wonderful to welcome so many families and visitors into our classrooms to experience the vibrant learning environment at Heidelberg Primary School.
A special thank you to our Year 6 Student Leaders, who did an outstanding job leading guided tours and impressing visitors with their confidence, leadership and pride in our school.
We could not have been prouder to see the effortful teaching and effortful learning taking place across the school, along with our school values being so positively and authentically showcased by our students. Thank you to all the families who attended and enjoyed seeing a day at Heidelberg Primary School in action.
'Choose Kindness, Choose Excellence'
ES acknowledgement and celebration
This week we celebrated a special day to acknowledge and recognise our wonderful Education Support staff. We thank them immensely for their ongoing contributions, care and commitment to our school community and students each and every day.
From our ES staff in the office and first aid room, to those supporting in classrooms and SAC, through to the staff working out in our gardens and around the grounds — thank you for all that you do. Your dedication, support and care make a tremendous difference to our school community.
Breakfast Club
Thank you to our parent, Hiromi, for volunteering to assist with Breakfast Club on Mondays!
If any other parents would like to assist, we value volunteers to help cook toast and serve breakfast to our students.
Please call, email or chat to me at the gate if you have any questions or are able to help out.

Foundation 2027 Enrolments
Do you have a child starting school in 2027?
We are accepting enrolments now. Hard copy enrolment forms can be found in the office foyer, or on our website.
Enrolments will close on Friday 31 July 2026.
If you are enrolling the sibling of a student at our school, and both children will be attending our school at the same time, your child is prioritised for a place at our school as per the department’s Placement Policy. For more information, please read about when and how to enrol your child in Prep at vic.gov.au/enrolling-foundation-prep.
National Reconciliation Week
Thank you to our parent, Fiona L, for providing posters for display around our school.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.
All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.
The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.
Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.
Industrial Action - Important Update!
Following the in-principle agreement reached between the department and the Australian Education Union (AEU), all stop work action has been suspended.
All students at Heidelberg Primary School will be expected at school the full day on Thursday 28th May.
Is your family up for a 60 Second Challenge?
