K/1 Class Update

Our K/1 students have been busy and engaged in a variety of learning activities this term. In Reading, students are continuing to develop their decoding, fluency and comprehension skills through daily reading experiences.

During Writing lessons, they have been working hard to create simple sentences, use correct punctuation and apply their growing knowledge of sounds and sight words.

In Mathematics, students have been focusing on number skills, including counting, number recognition and representing numbers in different ways. They have also been developing their problem-solving skills through hands-on activities, puzzles and mathematical challenges that encourage critical thinking and perseverance.

Students have been practising regularly for SHINE, building their confidence and preparing to showcase their talents.

To support wellbeing and concentration throughout the day, we enjoy daily fitness brain breaks, helping students stay active, focused and ready to learn. We have also been participating in Zones of Regulation lessons, learning to recognise our emotions and develop strategies to help us manage them in positive ways.

A big focus in the classroom has been developing correct pencil grip and handwriting habits to support students as they become confident writers.

In Science, students have been exploring what different objects are made of and investigating the materials we use in everyday life. One of our favourite activities was creating superhero capes using “magic fabric”, allowing students to be creative while learning about different materials and their properties.

We are proud of the enthusiasm, creativity and effort our K/1 students continue to show in all areas of their learning.
