Over the past couple of weeks, students in the Green Room have been engaged in hands-on, purposeful learning across all key learning areas, working collaboratively and applying their skills in real-world contexts.
Students have been exploring the three states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. Through songs, investigations and hands-on experiments, they have learned how to classify materials and why some substances can be difficult to categorise. They have also explored the importance of the states of matter in everyday life.

Students have been developing their understanding of multiplication, division and measurement. Stage 2 students are building fluency with times tables, while Stage 3 students are using partitioning strategies to solve larger multiplication problems. In measurement, students have been estimating and comparing capacity using litres and millilitres, with Stage 3 exploring displacement to measure irregular objects. Learning is being applied through practical problem-solving tasks.
Students have been developing persuasive writing skills, focusing on structuring arguments with a clear position, supporting reasons and strong conclusions. They have analysed exemplar texts, used persuasive language features and are now drafting and refining their own persuasive writing about role models. Students are also building confidence in delivering short persuasive speeches.
Students have been learning about Australia’s geography, including states, territories, capital cities and neighbouring countries. They have explored significant natural features and places important to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Students have also compared climates and investigated how geography shapes ways of living, including a focus on Hobart.
