Thank you to Kerry Slater, Luke Brownhill, Bec Middleton, Fr. Justin, the parents, and the children for their preparation and for making the First Communion such a special day this coming Sunday. Their combined efforts helped nurture the faith of our young disciples and made this important milestone a truly prayerful and meaningful celebration.

"Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’" – John 6:35
Finally just a reminder that students conclude for Term 2 on Friday the 26th of June at 1pm. The early finish is a necessity as the basketball court and the concrete outside the Year 1/2 classrooms is being prepared to be ripped up over the school holidays as well as the PFA and sports sheds being demolished. With these works, the holiday program will not be at SJV these school holidays and has been relocated elsewhere. Their Care will be in contact with families to notify them of this change.
Tickets are selling fast for the PFA Trivia night so please make sure that you get in quick and secure a ticket. It promises to be a fun night with lots of laughter. Please see the flyer below for the Try booking link / QR code. All funds raised go back into the providing the students with new play areas such as the sandpit.

On Friday the 19th of June, we are holding our annual SJV Athletics Carnival. The carnival will be held at: Mentone Athletic Track (Dolamore Athletics Track), Dolamore Reserve, Queen Street, Mentone. It will start at 9:30am and go through until 2pm. All of the Students from Years Prep to Year 6 will be travelling by bus to and from the Athletics track. Our departure time will be at 9:10am from school. All students will return back to school by approximately 2.30-2.45pm.
If any parents are available to assist on the day, could you please contact Mrs Monotti - dominique.monotti@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au
We will need at least two parent helpers from each class. Parents who can assist will need to meet at the track at 9:15am and stay until 2:30pm. Further information will be shared in digital form next week to all families.
We ask that students come dressed in their house colours and sports uniform. All children are asked to bring a packed lunch (NO LUNCH ORDERS ON THIS DAY) with a water bottle and plenty of healthy snacks. We encourage hats, sunscreen, beanies and coats depending on the weather. If it is raining on the day and we have to postpone, we will send a text message to all families by 9.30am.
Children will be taking part in gender heats in age groups; 9/10, 11 and 12/13 in these proposed events:
Track
Field
Novelty
Including, Tunnel ball, Sack race & obstacle course
Please view timetable below (Subject to Change) - PLEASE NOTE THAT PARENTS ARE TO WATCH THE EVENTS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRACK AND NOT IN THE MIDDLE ON THE GRASS AREA.

NOTE: From these events house points will be earned, ribbons awarded and the results will form a basis for selecting the Cheltenham District Athletics Team (Year 3-6 students only). Children who have only turned 8 this year are unable to progress to District level, this is a rule set by the district.
We are looking forward to a great day. Let's hope the weather gods smile upon us!
Last Tuesday, the STOMP concert/disco was a great event with just about every child in the school in attendance. Thank you to Kira from STOMP for the way she taught the program and arranged the concert with such energy and passion. I was very impressed with the disco moves of all of our students and some of our staff members as well.

As many of you are aware, preparations are underway for the demolition of the PFA Shed, basketball court and surrounding areas as part of our building project.
To help us get ready, we are holding two Working Bee sessions:
This demolition work will begin the following week on the last day of Term 2.
We would greatly appreciate your support.
There are a number of important jobs that need to be completed, including:
Relocation of bike racks
This is a significant task, and we cannot do it without the help of our wonderful parent community. Whether you can assist for the entire afternoon or just part of the time, your support would be greatly appreciated.
If you are available to lend a hand, please let us know by either contacting Ben Radford, the school office or myself.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. Working together, we can ensure everything is safely relocated and ready for the next stage of our exciting building project.
We are excited to share that a brand-new sandpit will soon be built for our students to enjoy under the shade sail on the oval. As part of the current building project, our existing sandpit will be demolished to make way for the new developments.
The new sandpit will provide a fresh, engaging, and imaginative play space where children can explore, create, and learn together. Work has begun on this space and we look forward to sharing updates on its progress and seeing our students enjoy this wonderful new addition to our outdoor learning environment.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Simon Thorne, parent of Vincent in Year 1 and Director/Owner of Dream Making Landscapes, for his generous support and expertise in helping bring our new sandpit project to life.
Simon has kindly shared his time, knowledge, and vision to help create this exciting outdoor space that will be enjoyed by our students for many years to come. We are incredibly grateful for his contribution and ongoing support of our school community.

Our building program continues to progress well, with significant works taking place across a number of areas across the site.
Recent works have included ceiling framing and fit-off, electrical fit-off, and vinyl tanking works. Security installation works are also scheduled to commence shortly.
We are excited to see work now underway on the external façade of the building, which is beginning to give a clearer picture of the finished look of the project. Landscaping works around the building have also commenced, helping to transform the surrounding outdoor spaces and bring the overall vision for the development to life.
Over the upcoming school holidays, the PFA and sports shed will be demolished as well as the basketball court and sand pit areas. More information will follow regarding these works in the coming weeks.
We thank our community for their ongoing patience and support as we move closer to the completion of this exciting project.
Please click through and take a look at the photos below.

Our annual School Fete will be held on Friday the 20th of November this year from 3.30pm to 8pm.
If you are new to the school and haven’t been a part of the SJV Fete - now is the time to get involved. The SJV fete is famous in this area, has been running for over 50 years annually and is the most wonderful community event.
As a parent, you will get the chance to learn new skills, hone skills you have, make new friends and enhance the enjoyment of your own child’s school experience. There are many jobs in the lead up, on the day and the day after. All families need to be involved to make this a successful event.
Please contact Nate Viviani with any questions Nathan.Viviani@inchcape.com, the office or send an email to me, principal@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au or put your name down in the school office to be a part of this great event.
Remember, it is our big fundraising event for the year and we encourage every family to be involved in some way.

As mentioned in our previous newsletters, each month we will be placing information in about the Victorian Child Safe Standards, which are a set of 11 minimum requirements that all organisations working with children must meet.
For the month of June, our focus is ’People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.’’

Our Requests for School Tours continue. Enrolments for Prep 2027 are now open and we encourage all families to submit their applications as soon as possible. If you have a child or you know someone wanting to tour schools for their child, please encourage them to book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office.
Our Uniform shop is open every Monday at 3.15pm for sales. If you cant make it at that time, pop into the office and fill in an order form.

The next school assembly will be on Friday 19th of June @ 3pm in the MPR
Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools. We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.
Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.
Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with Meditation, prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.
