Why do children wear a uniform at St Thomas?
Our uniform helps everyone know who belongs to our school. It keeps children safe and helps them feel proud to be part of the St Thomas community.
What types of uniforms are there?
We have two types — summer and winter. Families can choose which is most comfortable for their child at any time of year. We don’t have strict dates for changing uniforms.
Can my child wear clothes from home with the uniform?
No. Please make sure your child only wears official school uniform items. If we notice something different, we’ll send a small reminder note home.
We do have 'Casual Clothes' days at certain times of the year. You will be notified via the newsletter or email.
What about cold or wet weather?
On very cold days, your child can wear a navy blue coat, woolly hat, or scarf to keep warm. On wet days, a navy blue raincoat is fine too. Hoodies or non-school tracksuit pants should not be worn.
Is there a special day for sport?
Yes, each class has one sport day each week. Your child can wear their sports uniform that day. Some parents prefer to pack runners in their bag so children can change shoes for sport — either option is fine.
How can I help my child be independent with their uniform?
Practise dressing at home together. Show your child how to do up and undo zips and buttons. This helps them manage their own clothing at school and use the bathroom easily.
What if my child finds the uniform uncomfortable or tricky?
We’ve made some changes to the uniform to include simpler options with fewer zips and buttons. Younger children often prefer these. You can choose what works best for your child from our uniform range. Often for students the PE uniform of tracksuit pants/shorts and polo shirt is the most comfortable option. They are able to wear this every day.
What happens if my child wears non-school clothes?
It is expected that parents would email the teacher to explain why the child is not in uniform. If students are wearing non-uniform items on several occasions you will be contacted to discuss if support is needed.
