Uniform Expectations

School Uniform at St Thomas
At St Thomas, wearing the school uniform is very important. It helps everyone quickly recognise our students and keeps them safe. The uniform also helps children feel proud to belong to our school and to be part of the St Thomas community.
We ask for your help to support your child in becoming independent with their uniform. Please practise at home how to put on and take off items, and how to do up or undo any buttons and zips. This helps your child stay comfortable with their own temperature during the day and also means they can use the bathroom easily.
At St Thomas, we have two main types of uniform – summer and winter. However, we don’t make this a strict rule. Your child can wear either type at any time of year. What matters most is that they are wearing only school uniform items, not clothing from home. If we notice that your child is wearing something that is not part of the uniform, we’ll contact
Each week, children have one day when they take part in sports activities. On that day, your child can wear their sports uniform if you choose to. Some families prefer their child to wear the regular school uniform and simply pack a pair of runners in their bag to change into for sport.
We know that comfort matters, especially for younger children. Most students find the more flexible uniform items easiest to manage. It is fine for children to wear PE uniform every day. We have updated our uniform options to include fewer zips and buttons, to make dressing simpler for little fingers.
On very cold days, your child can wear an extra navy blue coat, woolly hat, or scarf to keep warm.
Wearing the uniform helps every child feel part of their class and the wider school team. It also means they don’t need to worry about what to wear each day or about what others are wearing. It’s one simple way we help all children feel included and ready for learning.
