Katrina Powell Shield
Term 1 Week 5
In Weeks 3 and 5, our Open Girls' softball team competed in the CWWHSSA ‘Katrina Powell Shield’.
The girls played with outstanding spirit and sportsmanship. Building on the skills they developed last year, their growth was evident from the very first game, where they secured a hard-fought 2-run victory over TRAC. The second game was a tough battle against KHS, resulting in a narrow loss, but our strong plus/minus margin earned the girls a well-deserved spot in the grand final.
The final started off challenging, with our girls conceding 8 runs in the first innings while struggling to get on the board themselves. However, they quickly settled into the game, making it a thrilling contest. Heading into the final innings, we trailed 13-5, but the girls weren’t ready to give up. They dug deep, bringing 8 runs home to tie the game 13-13 and force it into overtime.
WWHS batted first, setting a tough target of 5 runs. Our girls responded with 2 runs and had runners on second and third when Mati stepped up to bat. With a full count, she smashed the ball straight over second base—only for it to land in the hands of the deepest outfielder. Although we finished second, the girls played like true champions.
Their incredible sportsmanship was recognised when a coach from another school approached them after the game, thanking them for the way they supported each other and their opponents throughout the competition.
Congratulations to our amazing team, and a huge thank you to Amanda, Kylie, and Luke for all your support!
