3-4 Class

It has certainly been a very busy and productive couple of weeks in the 3/4 classroom! The students have been enthusiastically engaged in a range of learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum.

In Science, we have been conducting a variety of experiments as part of our Chemical Sciences unit. Last week, the students created their very own Ice Monsters. The aim of the investigation was to observe and describe the change of state as ice melted from a solid into a liquid. The students enjoyed making predictions, observing the changes and discussing what was happening throughout the experiment.

In Literacy, the students have been thoroughly enjoying our class novel Restart. Through the story, we have been developing our vocabulary and exploring interesting words such as nonchalant, reprieve, intricate and monotony. The novel has also provided valuable opportunities to discuss how our behaviour and choices can affect others, as well as exploring the consequences of bullying and the importance of empathy and kindness. We have also been revising homophones and exploring the suffixes -ness, -ful and -ly.

In Mathematics, our focus has been on graphs and how they can be used to represent and communicate data. Students have explored pie graphs, column and bar graphs, infographics and pictographs. Using data from the Commonwealth Games, students created a variety of graphs on their computers and demonstrated excellent skills in presenting and interpreting data.

During Social and Emotional Learning, we have been learning strategies for managing conflict positively and respectfully. Students have also been developing SMART goals and learning how to break larger goals into smaller, achievable steps.

The 3/4 class was saddened to hear that the Kirkman family will be moving to a new school. We wish them every success and happiness as they begin this new chapter. They will be greatly missed by both their classmates and teachers, and we hope they enjoy many wonderful experiences at their new school.
