Literacy:
Over the past two weeks we have began our analysis of the text 'Wonder'. The students have been eager to read and uncover the story of Auggie and how the themes of friendship, inclusion, and kindness are explored throughout the text. Specifically, the students have been engaging in questioning and creating inferences about the text. Unpacking how the who, what, when, where, and why of the story give us information as readers and impact our engagement and enjoyment.
During our writing sessions, we have been putting a focus towards our narrative planning, providing students with the opportunities to plan for a structure narratives with a begging, middle, and end. On top of this, the students have been revising their sentence word and how we can more detail and diversity in our sentences by looking at quotation and dialogue, as well as using appositives and combining our sentences.
In Core Literacy, we have learnt about the root word scope, which means to watch, see or observe.
The actual WORD, scope, means something you use to see inside of something. This word builder picture below is part of the homework this fortnight. How many words do you know and do you know the meaning too? Homework is attached above and also in their Google Classroom.


Numeracy:
In Maths we have revisited fractions. In particular focusing on converting improper fractions into mixed fractions and vis versa. We have also been working on solving fractions of groups and working out the whole of a group when given a fraction of a group by using bar graphs.
Students also looked at the connection of fractions and their decimal equivalent.


Students were also introduced to the: Rule of Divisibility for 9.
The rule of divisibility for 9 basically goes like this: “A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of all the digits present in the number is divisible by 9”.
To break down this complex-sounding rule, all you have to do is add up all the digits present in the number and see if that sum is divisible by 9.
Now, let’s check if this trick works with an example.
Let’s try it with 198
First, add all the digits in this number.
1 + 9 + 8 = 18
