A CONVERSATION CAN CHANGE A LIFE

R U OK? Inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.

You don’t need to be an expert to reach out- just a good friend and a great listener.

Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:

🏠 Try This at Home-

The 3-Minute Check-In

Take three minutes with your child and ask:

“What was one good thing about your day?” “Was there anything that was tricky or made you feel worried?” “Is there anything you need help with?”

The most important part is to listen. You don't always need to fix the problem — sometimes knowing that someone cares and is there to listen is enough.

And remember, R U OK? isn't just for one day. A simple “Are you OK?” can make a difference any day of the year.

Respectful Relationship Program

This term across the school our students are learning about the following topics, through a wide range of learning activities-

  • Help Seeking- Children can experience all kinds of challenges as they grow and develop. The help-seeking behaviours of children are fundamental to their mental health and wellbeing. Encouraging and fostering help-seeking behaviours is one way to improve mental health and wellbeing. It is important to work with students to make sure they are aware about help-seeking avenues and are confident to seek help from an appropriate source when needed.

One great resource we have used with our students is the Catastrophe Scale below. It helps students put problems into perspective by identifying how big or small a problem really is. It also supports students to recognise that some problems may feel very big at the time but can be managed independently. Importantly, it helps them understand when a problem is too difficult to handle on their own and when it is appropriate to seek help from a trusted adult. This is something that you may choose to use at home-
