The Chevalier College Investiture Ceremony is a celebration of student leadership, to serve with humility and grace. It is an opportunity for the community to give thanks to the current Year 12 leaders, and to welcome the new Year 11 leaders. At Chevalier College, we aim to live in accordance with the notion that leadership is based on service. We reject any idea that holding a leadership position leads to self-promotion. An important image for the leaders to remember is that of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet; this scene from the Gospel passage shows that service comes in many forms and that leadership is but one form of service.
We acknowledge the current leaders of Year 12. We thank them for their servant leadership, for being leaders of love, hope and faith. As a community they have guided us well this year in all aspects of school life. They have led with determination and from the heart, and have left a positive legacy.
The Investiture of the Year 11 Leaders is an opportunity to express gratitude to them for their decision to share their time and talent with the school and to be students whom the other members of our school community can emulate. We know that the leaders of 2024 will, through the strength of their collective vision, inspire their peers to work towards common goals. We are confident that these young student leaders have a genuine desire to serve our community.
At this assembly, the whole school also took the time to say goodbye to Father John Franzmann MSC. In a beautiful moment of humans collectively expressing their love and appreciation, John received a well-deserved spontaneous standing ovation from the students of the College. He leaves Chevalier knowing he is appreciated and will be much missed.
