Maddie has entered the ResourceSmart Schools Sustainability Through Your Own Lens competition. Take a look at this beautiful photo she took over the holidays, capturing the wings of a bee in motion. She has also written a blurb to accompany her photo, and it says it all!

Let’s bee heroes!

Bees are important in many ways. Do you ever wonder how fruit grows? Bees pollinate fruit flowers when they fly around, land on flowers and collect and drop pollen. The pollen helps the flowers make seeds. That's why bees are so important. Bees keep growing all our fruits. Without bees, it's possible our fruit wouldn't be as good as it is. We need to protect bees because every time a bee dies that's one less bee in our world to pollinate flowers. Next time you see a bee, leave it alone and it won't sting you and die. Let's bee heroes!

You can find out more about the photography competition here. The competition closes Friday 16 October 2026.

FPS Is Taking Part in the Aussie Bird Count!

We’re excited that we will be participating in the 2026 Aussie Bird Count, running from 19 to 25 October!

The Aussie Bird Count is a fun way to connect with nature, learn about Australian birds and contribute to a nationwide citizen science project. Students will have the opportunity to observe the birds around our school and discover more about the amazing birdlife in our local environment.

We are very lucky to have one of our parents, Zoe, involved in the Aussie Bird Count! Zoe will be coming to our school to help us take part, share her knowledge and inspire our students to become birdwatchers.

Families can join in at home, too. The Aussie Bird Count is easy to do wherever you are. Simply spend 20 minutes observing birds in your garden, at a local park or in another outdoor space, and record the birds you see.
