School Report Changes

Semester Two Report Changes

The end of term four is when you will receive your child's semester two report.

Recently, the Department of Education updated its student reporting policy to support a more consistent statewide approach to reporting student achievement and progress.

The changes are designed to:

  • Make reports clearer and easier for parents and carers to understand.
  • Make reports easier for teachers to prepare.
  • Provide 'plain English' information about what students have learned and the progress they have made.
  • Improve consistency in the information shared when students move between schools, particularly when transitioning from primary to secondary school.

The full changes to student reporting will take effect in 2027, however, FPS families will notice some changes in the semester two, 2026 reports.

What's Changed – Semester Two Reports

This semester your child/ren's report will look slightly different from previous years.

For each learning area and capability, the report will show:

  • Achievement level: Your child's achievement for the semester, reported using a five-point scale.
  • Progress: An indication of your child's progress since their previous report.
  • Summary comment: You will notice a big reduction in the ‘Student has Achieved’ comment. This has been replaced by a brief summary comment in 'plain English' focusing on your child's learning and progress. This change brings FPS in line with the new Department guidelines around comments.
  • The ‘Future Learning’ section has been removed. This is in line with the new changes.
  • Effort and behaviour have been removed by Compass and will no longer appear as part of the report as it is no longer available.

Additionally, this term work samples in Literacy and Numeracy will be sent home at the end of week 4 (Friday 30 October) and week 7 (Friday 20 November) to provide a snapshot of the learning that has been taking place in the classroom.

These changes are an initial step towards the Department of Education's updated statewide student reporting approach, which will be fully implemented in 2027.
