Marist Baksetball
Catholic College Sale enjoyed a highly successful 2026 Marist Basketball Carnival, with both the Boys and Girls teams delivering outstanding performances across the week.
The Boys made a dominant start to the tournament, recording strong wins over Mt Carmel, Lavalla and host school Newman College to finish Day 1 on top of their pool. Their momentum continued into Day 2, where they remained undefeated through the preliminary rounds, highlighted by a hard-fought comeback win over St Augustine’s College Cairns and a commanding victory against St John’s Woodlawn. The team finished atop their pool with the highest percentage in the competition, with Phoenix Cox among the leading scorers.
The Girls also impressed, overcoming a slow start to defeat Cardijn College on Day 1 before securing convincing wins over Marist College Bendigo and Newman College to finish the preliminary rounds undefeated. Brooke Kelly was a standout throughout, finishing among the top scorers in the competition.
Finals matches proved challenging, with the Girls bouncing back from a tough loss to Sacred Heart Adelaide to defeat Marist Burnie, while the Boys showed great determination in closely contested matches against Assumption College and Sacred Heart Adelaide.
Both teams finished the tournament strongly, recording wins over Cardijn College in their final games. The Girls secured an excellent 3rd place overall, while the Boys finished 5th.
Individual performances were recognised, with Phoenix Cox and Brooke Kelly named team MVPs, and Jimmy Little and Grace Dillow receiving Champagnat Awards. Brooke Kelly and Jimmy Little were also selected in the prestigious Marist X teams.
The College extends its sincere thanks to Mr Josh Stubbe, Mr Rod Curtis, Ms Kelly Burgiel, Ms Molly Work and Mr Jamie Murphy for their tireless dedication and support of the teams, as well as to the many families who travelled to Perth. Both squads represented
Catholic College Sale with pride, teamwork and determination throughout the carnival.
