Principal's Update
Mr Brett Van Berkel
As we enter the Easter season, we are reminded that the essence of our faith is not found in elaborate words or gestures, but in how we treat one another each day. The Risen Jesus offers us peace, a peace nurtured through prayer, compassion, and quiet courage. This is a peace evidenced in small, faithful actions: listening carefully, choosing kindness, standing with those who feel unheard, and remaining hopeful even when the world seems uncertain.
In a time marked by ongoing global conflict, our College motto, Peace Among Nations, continues to guide us. Inspired by the Marist tradition of humility and presence, and the Sion commitment to understanding, justice, and reconciliation, we are called to cultivate peace first within our own community. As we pray for peace in the world, may we also be individuals who foster peace through our words, actions, and care for one another.
I am pleased to announce that we have officially moved into our new Training Restaurant, with classes scheduled to begin in Term 2. The space looks fantastic and will offer our students an authentic, high-quality learning environment. We look forward to making the facility fully operational, with the long-term aim of opening it to the public so the wider community can enjoy this exciting addition to the College.

As part of the upcoming Master Plan process, our architects, Y2, will be conducting consultation sessions with students, parents, staff, and the wider community. The first step in this process is a survey that has been sent to all parents. I strongly encourage you to take the time to complete this survey, as your feedback is vital in helping to shape the next phase of development for Catholic College Sale.
One of the main commitments I made regarding the new Master Plan was to ensure meaningful community consultation. This survey is the first step, and there will be further opportunities for engagement as the process progresses. Your voice matters, and I appreciate your contribution to this important work.
The refurbishment of St Patrick’s Building will start in Term 2 and is a major project that will continue through to Term 1, 2027. Although there will be some disruption to yard spaces during this period, all classes will continue as usual, and our learning programs will not be affected.
We are excited to begin Stage Two of this refurbishment, which will deliver a modern, contemporary learning environment for students while restoring the exterior of the building to its former architectural glory. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our community as we undertake this important work.

On Saturday 21 March, I had the pleasure of hosting the 1971–1976 Alumni Reunion, celebrating 50 years since their time at the College. With over forty alumni in attendance, the afternoon was filled with stories, laughter, and warm memories of life at the College as both day students and boarders.
It was wonderful to witness the strong connections that remain so evident among this group, and their enduring affection for the College. One of my priorities moving forward is establishing a formal Alumni Group to reconnect past students with the College and provide opportunities to return, reconnect, and see how the College continues to grow and evolve. There will be more to share about upcoming alumni events throughout 2026 and 2027.

I also had the pleasure of attending the Presentation Ball on Friday 27 March, a truly wonderful evening and a cherished tradition at Catholic College Sale. Our Year 11 students looked magnificent and impressed everyone present with their dance skills and confidence. It was especially meaningful to hear parents reminiscing about their own Presentation Balls and to see multiple generations of families celebrating together.
A heartfelt thank you to Julia Moulton and her team, whose dedication and organisation made the evening a great success. We look forward to carrying on this special tradition into 2027 and beyond.

Catholic College Sale has completed the 2026 Marist Basketball Carnival with outstanding results, with our Girls finishing 3rd and Boys finishing 5th overall. These placings demonstrate the talent, effort, and commitment of our students and coaching staff within the Marist Basketball programme.
Following their strong and consistent performances, Brooke Kelly and Jimmy Little were selected for the prestigious Marist X Teams. We congratulate both students on this well-deserved recognition and thank all involved for representing the College with pride and sportsmanship.
As Term 1 finishes, I want to personally thank all staff at Catholic College Sale for their remarkable efforts. It has been a busy term with camps, events, and excursions, and our teaching staff continue to work hard to deliver meaningful learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
I also extend my sincere appreciation to our support and administration staff, whose behind-the-scenes work greatly contributes to making Catholic College Sale such a special place to work and learn.
I wish all our families a safe, joyful, and restful Easter break, filled with time with family and friends, and moments for reflection, renewal, and prayer.
God bless,

Brett Van Berkel
